Very variable

Advantages: the service usually runs-fairly clean
Disadvantages: variable timings, rude drivers

The Firstbus service is highly variable in its quality. I live in an outlying village, and the only bus to Bristol runs once every two hours. There seems to be some miscommunication between drivers and management as to the route-once a driver even stuck his head 'round, and asked the travellers "Which way?". Great way to inspire confidence. My morning bus, which is meant to arrive at 7.02 usually arrives anywhere between 7 and 7:15. They ...
...by the time we arrive in Bristol we're often over half an hour late. Althogh the buses tend to be clean, some mess is not unheard of, and if you've got a big suitcase, better hope you can carry it yourself-an old lady who didn't speak much English was going from Bristol to Bristol airport once. The driver told her to lift a heavy suitcase into a luggage rack. Fortunately, fellow passengers helped, and helped her off again at the airport, but the ... more

WHY USE THE CAR?

Advantages: CHEAP
Disadvantages: NONE

SINCE I HAVE BEEN AT BRISTOL UNIVERSITY I HAVE USED THE FIRST LINE BUS SERVICE EVERY TWO WEEKS TO GET FROM YEOVIL TO BRISTOL AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. IT IS AN EXTREMEMLY CHEAP WAY TO GET TO BRISTOL AND THERE ARE EVEN HALF PRICE FARES ON SUNDAYS. THE BUS SERVICE IS EXTREMEMLY REGULAR EVERY HOUR FROM YEOVIL AND IS ALWAYS ON TIME. IN THE TWO YEARS THAT I HAVE BEEN USING THE SERVICE I HAVE NEVER BEEN LATE. I FEEL VERY SAFE ON THE BUS WHICH IS ...

Going by coach

Advantages: Buses are nearly always on time and cheap
Disadvantages: They seem to be cutting services so people have to make more changes

writing to National express Ltd, PO Box 9854, Birmingham, B16 8XN. Once booked, the tickets can be changed at any time for £1.50 by phone or in person - in fact, Ive found its often cheaper to book a return day and change it than it has been to buy an open return. As you have to confirm an open dated return beforehand to ensure that the coach will be there for you, its not even like its any extra hassel! If you need a refund, it must be before the time of travel unless you have proof of inability to travel e.g. a medical certificate. They will also charge you £5 fee. You are advised to be at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before the journey. It will say on your ticket what number bus you are looking out for and whether it is a national express coach or a badgerline or flightlink so you know exactly what to look for. I have always ...
