Advantages: very clean, value for money, excellent Disadvantages: too far from Amsterdam
Now not taking into account my 12hour journey on coach to the Hague, when we arrived at the Golden Tulip, for the price we had paid we were expecting a travel lodge of some kind, however much to our surprise the hotel looked very well presented with all glass windows at the front, looking into an exceptional reception area.
The reception had all marble floors, to the right of you you had a bar with a well spacious lounge area and to the right 4 lifts to all floors.
Considering there was a coach load of us, reception were very firendly and very quick in getting us all checked in and allocated to our rooms.
All the lifts worked to all floors and upon entering the room, it was very bright, spacious, with a king sized bed and everything that you required for your stay, hairdryer, television with sky, tea and coffe making facilities ...
Advantages: Everything you could need for a family holiday! Disadvantages: The public transport is overwhelming!
Rotterdam was already waiting there for us.
So far, so Smoooooth!!! The ticket collector told us to change at Rotterdam, our travelling companion in the next seat, from Peru, said "stay on, it goes all the way to Den Haag," he had done it many times before. We stayed on....and believe it or not, we arrived on cue at the right station, Den Haag Central.
A couple of wrong trams followed by a couple of right ones, took us to Scheveningen, where we were met by a really friendly Dutch lady, world travelled, and like us a global Freeloader. We trekked with bags and case back to her flat, with Oscar riding pillion on her bike, legs disappearing inside her saddlebags.....
Scheveningen is a wonderful old Dutch town, with little shops with friendly owners, there were some wonderful antiques & collectables, where I would have loved to have ...
Advantages: Amazing Night Life!!!!! Disadvantages: Loud!!!
During the Nazi occupation local resistance sussed out the Nazi spys by having people pronounce the name of the town Scheveningen. So don't embarrass yourself trying to say it!
5 minutes from the Hague, 15 minutes from Delft and about 40 minutes from Amsterdam; if you are looking for night life Scheveningen is the place to be.
The boardwalk is strewn with cafes and clubs, some staying open as late, or as early as 6AM.
I still haven't visited Scheveningen by day yet so I'm unable to comment on the day life, although from what I can gather it would be excellent for a day at the beach.
There is a Bungy Jump Club situated at the end of the pier and a large shopping mall, offering late night shopping on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 11pm.
There is a very large Holland Casio, difficult to miss when you step off the tram ...
