The Grand Bahia hotel itself is made up of 3 separate hotel complexes: Akumal, Tulum and Coba. Each hotel can be walked to (about 15 minutes) or there are golf buggy trains that go to each of the complexes throughout the day and night. Great efficient service. Each hotel has it's own beach access, swimming pools, bars, restaurants and facilities.
The main restaurants are buffet style for all meals but you are entitled ... ...week of your stay. The main buffet always has a huge choice of foods for each meal and I can't imagine anyone not being able to find something to eat!! The food always looks fresh and staff are constantly refilling and replacing trays, even when they're not empty. The a'la carte restaurants are waitress service and the quality of the food is excellent. The steak at the Arlequin restaurante melts in your mouth it is so tender.
We decided to travel to Mexico in March 2006 after doing a bit of research on Trip Advisor. The reviews were mainly good, with some negative but we thought that you get that anywhere so we decided to give it a go. We booked the 2 week holiday through Global Travel and we couldn't fault them. When we arrived at the airport we were promptly whisked away in a comfortable air conditioned people carrier with 2 other couples to our destination. Unfortunately the transfer takes approximately 2 hours which was a bit tiring after a 10 hour flight!!
On arrival at the resort our first impressions were stunning. The main lobby is dominated by a huge stone statue and beautiful lighting. Our luggage was tagged and we checked in. The staff were extremely friendly and we were given a chilled cocktail and some chocolates whilst our room details were found. The check in was speedy and we were given the details we needed. We were then shown to where our room was (5 minutes away) and told our luggage would follow. The bags arrived about 5 minutes later.
We found our room straight away, it was on the ground floor. All the rooms are in blocks which are clearly numbered on the walkway. They are all 3 storeys and 6 rooms to a row. Our room was classed as a junior suite as it had an extra sitting area. We got to the room and it was very spacious. There was a huge king size bed (comfy), satellite tv, mini bar fridge, full bathroom, settee, table and chairs and patio with furniture. The room was very clean and it gets cleaned every day by very friendly staff. They always leave towel art on the beds and fresh flowers. The mini bar is also refilled daily, this includes beer, soft drinks, water, fruit juices, chocolate and crisps (all free!!)

Staff again are excellent and attentive. Everyone will say hello to you and smile, even the maintenance people who are constantly grooming the grounds so it is immaculate.
Swimming pools are clean and towels, parasols and beds are provided. Poolside and swim up bars are excellent and the bar staff are not shy with their alcohol portions.
The beach is clean and there is plenty of room to sunbathe. Some parts tend to get more crowded than others but we always found plenty of room and it never felt like we were surrounded. Whilst we were there we saw 2 weddings take place and they looked beautiful.
This resort was classed as a 5 star in the brochures but I thought it was more a 4 star. The facilities were fantastic but it wasn't luxurious as you would expect from a 5 star. Don't let this put you off though. Another thing I would mention is that this resort is about 2 hours from Cancun so it's mainly a resort based holiday unless you want to go on the excursions provided.
All in all we found this resort fab. We wanted a resort where we could relax and chill for 2 weeks and this ticked all the boxes. The staff are extremely friendly, the food and drink is plentiful, the amenties good, nightly entertainment plentiful and varied. And the sun shone constantly!!
Advantages: Just an awesome place to stay! Disadvantages: Although the complex has everything, the nearest town is 20mins away.
I stayed in this hotel last year! We actually stayed in the Tulum Hotel which is one of the 3 hotels connected to the complex. It was fantastic. From the moment we arrived and were given a champange cocktail things looked good. The food was all inclusive and of the highest standard, various other restaurants and snack bars were also available until midnight 7 days a week. The Tulum sits on the beach, which has windsurfing and scuba diving available ...
