My boyfriend and I took a holiday in September 2003 at Bahia Principe in Dominican Republic. Opting for an all-inclusive (to help stretch our budget) we were abit apprehensive due to some horror stories we'd heard about all-inclusive's in general. We booked through teletext so managed to get a decent deal.
After a long day of travel (including 8 hour flight!) we were ready to collapse by the time we arrived. The first thing that struck us was the lavish grounds of the complex. Next came the charms of the wonderful staff who couldn't do enough for us!!!
Our room was spacious and well air conditioned; it was a perfect retreat from the heat! The rooms are spread out in small apartments of 8 rooms, and are surrounded by tropical gardens. One thing worth a mention with regard the rooms is the high standard of daily cleaning- and constant refill of the minibar!!!!!
Next came the food! There are 5 restaurants on site- an international buffet (which is where you generally eat daily) plus the other a la carte restaurants- Mexican, Italian and Mediterrean. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included daily at the buffet whilst dinner at the other restaurants is once a week each. The staff were always very friendly and spoke embarrassingly good English (much better than our spanish!). The standard and range of food was very high, everything from fresh fish to pasta, and salads to a bounty of fattening desserts! Drinks were kept flowing throughout.
There was plenty to do on site. Crazy golf, windsurfing, organised sports and also the normal sunbathing etc. Regarding entertainmentmy boyfriend was particularly impressed by the talents of the piano player in the lobby bar!!!!
The highlight of our holiday was an excursion to the Rancho Montana. We went tropical trekking through the Dominican countryside. Its where Jurassic park was filmed so you can imagine the scenery! Even though it rained it was an amazing day and well worth the soreness the following day!
The only dampener to our holiday came when a minor earthquake hit the island! Yep you read correctly earthquake! But do not worry that was the first they had in about 50 years! You should be safe for a while!
Believe me you will not be disappointed at Bahia Principe- (the hotel even has its own theme tune!!!!) Enjoy.....
