My husband and I booked to go here on the recommendation of friends for our honeymoon 15th sept 2008. From check in to check out we could not fault anything about the trip. From getting off the coach on arrival we had our bags taken to the room and we're given a fruit cocktail as we joined the line to check in. The guys on reception were fast and pleasant. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely 'towel art' heart in the middle of the oversized double bed. The air con was good a little too good I had to go outside to warm up one night! It was a standard room as we didn't know about the Hacienda Club rooms until later in the holiday however from talking to another guest on her 7th visit to the hotel there is very little difference between them. Both me and my hubby are fussy eaters so didn't try the speciality restaurants but we did find the buffet restaurant to offer more than adequate variety for breakfast lunch and dinner. Also the snack bar on the beach did Pizza, Hot Dogs, Sandwiches and more just incase you skipped lunch. The entertainment in the evening was a little rough round the edges but still very funny and the Dolte La Velta song which was played about 5 times a day seemed to be the theme song and dance of the hotel but was fun learning the dance and downloading the song when we got home to wind my hubby up!!! Ha ha ha. The “street” is really lively after the main entertainment finishes the entertainers all go down to the club and you’ll find them running the karaoke in the bar and dancing in the club. The casino is really good loads of slot machines and tables for cards and such. Barter with the girls on the beach if you want your hair doing as I got my shoulder length hair all braided for 18 dollars which I think is cheap compared to some places I’ve been. The beach is simply beautiful and so clean as well as the sea but be careful on the sandbanks they are very slippy. If you really have to climb on one to sunbathe of take pictures like we did go on the one behind the gym it’s the easiest to get to as the water is about knee deep. The gym is very good according to my hubby and the spa next door looked reasonable price wise. Loads to do on site if you like doing stuff ie scuba, banana boat ect. Small but sufficient playground didn’t try it but noticed only because we have a 5 year old. The “quiet” pool is the best in our eyes. Eddie, the attendant, does a great job of keeping it clean and was very friendly. Antonio, the barman, was the best in the hotel always remembered everyone’s dinks even my coffee in the afternoons. Oh and the Dominican coffee if you’re a lover like we are it is gorgeous! We brought some home for both sets of parents but forgot our own! Gutted!
Anyway the reason I’m writing this now is my hubby has just booked for sept 2010 as an anniversary present for me, he knew how much I wanted to go back. This year we are taking our son who will be 6 and I have no doubts he will have as great a time as we did a year ago. Oh one great big tip they don’t tell you till you get there if your going around sept time take Citronella patches or something with Citronella in because there are sand flees which come out at dusk along the beach. We only had a few bites between us but many others were badly bitten and knew nothing about the Citronella. Also Boots own tropical bug spray works well.

Advantages: Beautiful place, lovely people, great service and just plain good fun. Disadvantages: Telephon service goes down regularly though mobile reception was good.
