Lembongan Island get away.

Advantages: Peace and Quiet away from a hectic schedule.
Disadvantages: No en-suite facilities, local ferry leaves from the beach at 05.00 every morning, Ghecco's are very noisy at night

Lembongan island is Paradise on earth. Travel to the island is through an Australian company based in Bali and is advertised in the hotels as the Hi tide huts. We took the plunge and were very impressed. We were looking for something "different" having travelled the length and breadth of Bali with local people in a 4 wheel drive. The journey to the island is by sea and can be done as a day trip, there is a lot missed if only going for a day. The huts ...
...made from straw and standing on stilts on the beach. There is a ladder to get to your detached room and the bathroom and shower is a 100 mtr dash but more than worth it. The island is very sparcely populated with the huts on the south coast and a village of sea weed farmers on the north. Once the boat has returned to Bali and the day trippers gone it is the perfect hide away. We did a deal with a local man who picked us up in his "car" and took us ...

Beware

Advantages: stunning
Disadvantages: cold and poor

...stunning place but unfortunately necessary. Gunung Batur (Batur Mountain) is in central bali and is one of the island's most sacred places. It's a beautiful sight when you arrive at the top: the road climbs and climbs up the edge of this ancient volcano until you reach the lip of the caldera, when this astonishing view opens up. The walls of the caldera fall amost vertically to the plain that was the old centre of the volcano, which has now re-emerged ...
...very active volcano. Curling round one side of the new volcano is lake batur. THere is much you can do here. First instinct will be to get out of the car and admire the spectacle - well worth a look but be careful of the hawkers. This is a very poor area and visitors are pounced on by vendors desperate to sell you everythign from fruit to chessboards. This is normal for Bali, but their pleading tones and genunie desperation make refusing them harder ...

Ubud and the Sacred Monkey Forest

Advantages: Inexpensive and Diverse, with a Great Monkey Forest and Temples
Disadvantages: Very Touristy

My husband and I visited Ubud while we were in Bali on our honeymoon, and I really loved it. The streets are lined with little shops selling jewelry, wood work (we got some beautiful little teak bowls), textiles, etc, and it was chock full of people. I really enjoyed the fast pace of it - compared to rural Bali, where time seems to exist differently than in the West, Ubud was full of action. However, this blessing was also, in some ways, a curse, ...
...hire a motorbike? Geographically, Ubud is pretty much right in the middle of Bali - therefore there are no beaches. Inland Bali is mountainous (Volcanic, really) and gorgeous, though; our villa overlooked a valley with a stream in it, with rice paddies decorating the slopes of the hills. Ubud is the arts and crafts capital of Bali, so in addition to tourist wares, there are a number of different galleries and museums to visit. The city is home to ...

Not for single

Advantages: awesome watersport
Disadvantages: too quiet at evening

Nusa Dua area is great place for watersport. Here you can easily jump to the water for diving (even not the best choice compare to Bunaken), snorkling, kayaking, jet ski, banana boat, windsurfing, etc. This area is more quiet than Kuta, so if you like to have party and clubhopping, this is not the right place. Nusa Dua offers you quiet environment with many nice hotels there. Great place for honeymoon and in the opposite, if you travel alone its ...

sanur,bali

Advantages: lots to do,spectacular scenery,good seafood,beautiful beaches
Disadvantages: hassled to buy things, coral was dead so snorkelling not great

Lovely beaches but not as quiet as I expected or I was told. I went during the christmas period where business is very slow for the locals so everyone was desperate to sell you something or get you to go on a day trip. This is good when your are wanting to sightsee and there are many things to see and do in Bali but not so good if you can not even lie on the beach for half an hour. it was an absolutely fantastic and interesting experience and the ...
...about their religion, culture.Be warned that you will be taken to many different shops no matter if you go with a local guide or the hotel guide. One local guide, named Tarzan(yes for real!) was a real pleasure to spend days with and nights drinking in the bar he worked in, he is worth asking around for. Beautiful place, seeing the rice fields, temples in particular the water temple is a must see where people clense themselves from illness. With the ...
