Advantages: lots to do,spectacular scenery, good seafood, beautiful beaches Disadvantages: hassled to buy things, coral was dead so snorkelling not great
Lovely beaches but not as quiet as I expected or I was told. I went during the christmas period where business is very slow for the locals so everyone was desperate to sell you something or get you to go on a day trip. This is good when your are wanting to sightsee and there are many things to see and do in Bali but not so good if you can not even lie on the beach for half an hour. it was an absolutely fantastic and interesting experience and the people are very welcoming and willing to tell you all about their religion, culture.Be warned that you will be taken to many different shops no matter if you go with a local guide or the hotel guide. One local guide, named Tarzan(yes for real!) was a real pleasure to spend days with and nights drinking in the bar he worked in, he is worth asking around for. Beautiful place, seeing the rice fields ...

For someone wanting a dynamic holiday, Bali is definitely not the place to go. Bali is more for relaxing, pottering about and enjoying the local food, wine and culture. One particular attraction is the excursions that are available, which including horse riding ...

Advantages: Peaceful and less hassle Disadvantages: See above; but it depends on what you want
This is a follow-up to Scam in Kuta.
It rather scared me out of the region, or at least put me off Kuta for a while. Headed for somewhere quiet, and found that somewhere in Sanur; and bliss in comparison.
Stayed at the Santai Hotel, which has a fantastic vegetarian restaurant incorporated into it; Kafe Jali Tawa, the food is just marvellous. Its also got an Internet centre on site. All in all, very laid back and environmentally friendly. Just what i needed after my first piece of excitement in Kuta.
There's a marvellous stretch of beach, which has a boardwalk running the length, although a little broken in some places, and very little hassle; and the little was pretty friendly. A great place to relax and unwind for a few days.
Not, a tremendous amount to do, although the night market is well worth a visit; and you can always pop ...
