4 of us stayed at this hotel for two weeks in 2002.Both the hotel and resort were generally very pleasant.The hotel was 3 star rated and was very clean,and well furnished.The rooms were spacious with lots of storage space,and the pool was large and well maintained.The location was at the top of a hill,but there were plenty of very cheap taxis and a little electric train which ran regularly.I have to say the food was fairly dire,or at least the breakfasts were,and that put us off trying the evening meals,but places to eat were plentiful and unbelievably cheap,with a huge choice of food styles,from Indian to steak houses.The resort itself was clean with lovely beaches.Golden Sands is quite small and we did get a bit fed up of going up and the hill all the time.By day the bottom of the hill is a busy little market,but at night it becomes the red light district and the girls will openly approach all men even those with wives and girlfriends,but do take no for an answer and move away.We enjoyed our holiday so much we are going back this year but to the larger Sunny Beach,and hope to have another good holiday in Bulgaria.I do know that there are some bad hotels but my advice would be not to bok under 3 star,and read the reviews.Dont expect too much from Balkan Airlines.No inflight entertainment and horrible food,but it is only 3 and half hours from the uk,so take a sandwich and a book and youll soon be there.
