Balthazar is located in the Victoria waterfront and is soo good we went back twice!

The location is really good, a large shopping mall with various shops (Diesel, Miss Sixty, Pick and Pay, Chemist, BodyShop etc). We paid our first visit after taking the trip over to Robben Island, and wanted to sit and look over our photos over a nice meal. After wandering along the waterfront for a while, we finally settled on Balthazar, without even looking at the menu! Imagine our delight when we notcied that they served 600 wines - 147 by the glass!

We got a table outside and were offered bread and some kind of sausage in a tomato sauce, which were greatly wolfed down!

The menu is surf and turf, but they do have some good salads too.

As there were 4 of us dining I think we tried everything on the menu (apart from dessert - far too full) and I wuold recommend EVERYTHING! The creamed spinach was too die for! We also had a thing called an onion blossom or onion flower ( around 35R) I can't remember, but it was a large onion opened in a flower shape and then fried til crispy - very naughty but very nice. Oysters were great.
We tried the game skewer whjich had Wildebeast, Kudo and Springbok and they were all fantastic.

I settled for a steak, which was cooked to perfection (medium) and I have to say I think it was the best steak I have eaten. This was priced at around 90R, for the same dish in London I think you would pay double that - it really was that good.

I couldn't sing this places praises high enough, everything was perfect and I think if you are doing the waterfront while you are in Cape Town, this is a great night out.

For starters, 4 bottles of wine, mains and after dinner drinks we paid around £30 each. The service was 5* and you would be looking at at least double that price if you were dining in London. Salads were around £5-6 and were huge. The one overall thing about dining in SA is that you will never be left hungry!

We tried a number of wines, the only one I remember is the SOuthern Right - fab.
10 out of 10 from me!
