"My Tooth Ith Looth"

Advantages: Some stuff to do
Disadvantages: Attitude of locals and general town layout

Baltimore is not an exotic place. It’s not the type of place most people would cross an ocean or even a country to visit. It is, however, the place I’m living at the moment and so, for now, it is home. I chose the job rather than the location, and I’m loving the fact that at the moment they are paying me handsomely to sit at my desk and write all day, but Baltimore itself is still taking some getting used to.

For those who don’t know ...
...group), Baltimore is a city in Maryland, and Maryland is a state on the east coast of the United States, surrounded by Delaware (as Elle Woods would say: “No sales tax!”), Virginia, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. Baltimore is perhaps the most well known place in the state, though Annapolis, some distance to the south, is the state capital. Chesapeake bay on which the city sits means there is always water nearby, though this is all harbours and ... more

Balti-less

Advantages: erm... Inner Harbor with good aquarium?
Disadvantages: See above, numerous

...I had to go to Baltimore for work to present at a conference, otherwise I wouldn't have gone. The conference was from 6-11 May and I'd planned for a couple of days in DC, so this is based on my experiences in Baltimore. I reached Baltimore's Mount Vernon district (to the north of the Inner Harbor, the touristy part) via taxi from the airport. I'd gone through some rather rought looking areas to get there. The area I was in seemed okay and after ...
...of the roughest parts of Baltimore on my own. Any shops which had been there were now boarded up, and drunks lay sleeping across the draincovers which eminated hot air, in order to keep themselves warm through the colder evenings. The place smelt disgusting. I did feel quite unsafe in all but the most touristy parts of Baltimore, which were few and far between. The touristy areas of which I speak are centred around the Inner Harbor. here, you'll ...

Disadvantages: Some areas are dangerous

location Baltimore is a small city located in the state of Maryland in the north east part of the United States. It is close to the Washington DC metropolitan area and from Silver Spring MD it is about a 45 minute drive. If you are arriving by air there is BWI(Baltimore Washington International Airport)which would get you close to the city. Getting around The city has a metro bus service that would get you into most places but you need to know the ...
...most US cities and Baltimore is not an exception. If you can get hold of a car then you would be in great shape.Parking can be a challenge so be very careful where you place your car.You can get paid parking( especially when there are public events) for about $5-6 for the whole day. Attractions If you get anywhere close to Baltimore there are two professional teams in the city. One of them is the Baltimore Orioles who play professional baseball and ...

Fly BWI But Don't Buy

Advantages: Easy to get to and get around
Disadvantages: Not a shopping mall the way Ringway is

Baltimore Washington International is one of several airports near me now I?m living in the US. The name could be confusing because the two named cities are just over an hour apart and not directly next to each other, meaning the airport, unless exceedingly large, could not be situated in both places at once. As is often the case with airports these days, it?s not really in either as it turns out, but is accessible by both, hence the name. Getting to the airport from the surrounding states (Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia) is not hard, as it is actually served by frequent, reliable public transport, something which cannot be said for the rest of the area I?m based in. From Washington D.C. it takes about an hour, and busses make this trip from outside the terminal every 45 minutes. Amtrak, the main train operator here ...

Bland and White Inside

Advantages: Spacious, clean, easy to find where you should be!
Disadvantages: Not very interesting

BWI (not Bland and White Inside, but Baltimore/Washington International) airport is a mid-sized airport approx. 15 miles from Baltimore, and about 30 miles from Washington. For Baltimore, it is your best choice, but if flying to D.C. fly to Dulles instead, it's nearer. Having spent over 10 hours here, I guess I'm something of an authority. On entering the airport, you will reach one of five departure areas, letters A-E. That which you will enter depends on the airline you're flying with. National airlines are letters A-C, international ones are D-E. If terminal 'E' is anything to go by, it had 8 departure gates. The central non-passenger area in each of the terminals is small, but is peppered with newsagents and gift shops, eager to remove you of the Monopoly-like US dollars. If you're hungry, head to terminals B&C as they ...

great show no matter where it's seen

Advantages: great catchy songs
Disadvantages: some American star I didn't know!

I was in New York and having seen lots of shows in London theatre land I really wanted to see on on Broadway too. As I've seen many shows in London the shows available to see in NY were limited, we narrowed it down to Hairspray or Wicked. I wanted to see Wicked in London - not sure why, I just did. I had no idea what Hairspray was like as hadn't seen the film so it was quite good as no real expectations. We managed to get cheaper tickets for the show from the tkts booth just off Times Square - I can't remember the price of them but it was reasonable. The show kicked off with a great catchy song - Good Morning Baltimore which I loved and still sing to this day! The lead was played by an American, which they all loved but I had no clue who he was! He was great though, bringing comedy into the role where it was needed and played ...
