Bandung (Java)

Advantages: Friendly people, nice temperature, cheap fine dining
Disadvantages: bad road condition, child beggars

I have stayed in bandung for 4 months in 2003, and 4 months in 2004. You have to take a flight to jakarta first, and go there by road. This land travel will take about 2.5 to 4 hours depending on the traffic. The things I like most about is that fine dining and hotel is very cheap, for US100 you can get excellent room overlooking bandung on hilltop (e.g. at Jalan dago). ...with dutch influence through out the city which may interest architecture students. There are open air concerts during saturday evenings at Dago. For volcano visit, you can take a 30 minute drive to Tangkuban Perahu, to take a closer look. The people are very friendly, and the women are beautiful (majority of them).
