Bangkok Airways (36 years old this year!) provides domestic flights within Thailand (destinations include Hua Hin, Sukhothai, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Pattya) as well as flights from Thailand to Laos, Vietnam, China, Singapore and Cambodia. The service I received was nearly perfect. The only hiccup was when I arrived at Bangkok international airport, hubby in tow, our flight appeared to have been cancelled. There was no sign of our flight number on the departures board and upon check-in, we were told that our flight had indeed been cancelled and we had been put on another flight that left twenty minutes after our original flight. This apparently happens quite often due to the large number of flights that are operated to Koh Samui each day - quieter flights are simply consolidated with busier ones. However, the change was made so seamlessly that we didn't really mind and we spent the extra twenty minutes eating Thai snacks in the airport cafeteria.
I was surprised and impressed to see that the departure lounge at Bangkok airport provided ALL passengers with complimentary newspapers, fruit juice, snacks, bananas (loads of em!), tea and coffee. There were also a couple of computers with very slow internet access for waiting passengers to use.
The flight was on a tiny turbo prop plane which was comfortable enough. The flight attendants were very friendly and professional. Despite the fact that the flight took less than an hour, we were served a hot meal and beverages which was also impressive - the staff dealt with this extremely efficienty. There was simply no time to get bored! The food was a bit strange ( we had what looked like chicken nuggets with spaghetti) but the cakes were nice!
The airport on Koh Samui is something else. It is privately owned by the airline and was built using local materials - the low-rise buildings are thatched with coconut palm leaves! A truck towing a number of little carriages took passengers to the rustic terminal. The airport has taxi and money changing facilties. There is also a little gift shop for those last minute souvenirs, as well as a couple of cafes where you can get fresh coconut water.
On departure, all passengers can browse the complimentary newspapers and use the temperamental and slow internet access. Again, there are also refreshments available for everyone. These little touches made Bangkok Airways an enjoyable airline with which to fly.
All in all, I was extremely happy with my experience with Bangkok Airways. The only real negative point is the 500 baht (around £8) departure tax which is levied on all flights leaving the airport. This has to be paid at the time of leaving Koh Samui airport (ie, it is not included in the price of the ticket) - remember to keep some local currency back for this!
Advantages: Good route network, bookable online, friendly image Disadvantages: Expensive
...time, and wanted to experience Bangkok and Koh Samui. I knew that the lengthy flight from London would sap me of energy, and cost me a day out of my ten in Thailand.
I booked my long-haul flight with Thai airways online, I booked a hotel in Bangkok online, and a bungalow on a beach in Koh Samui online. The missing link was the flight from Bangkok to Samui.
Guess what... I booked it online!
Bangkok Airways website is brilliant. Aswell as the facility ... ...secondary airports miles from town. Bangkok Airways use the same international airport that I arrived in Thailand at. A new 'Super-airport' is being built in Bangkok, I am not sure what airlines are going to re-route into that.
Good security prevails here, with bags being sealed. Check in was effortless and I moved swiftly through to the gate.
The aircraft are stunning, lots of flowery/leafy/tropical livery, and it sets a fun tone (lets face it, ...

Advantages: Great service, flights on time, always expanding new routes. Disadvantages: Lower prices can be found with other budget airlines.
Bangkok airways is the main airline operating the domestic routes around Thailand, and some international routes, these include routes to/from; Cambodia, China, Japan, Laos, Maldives, Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam.
I have flown with Bangkok airways twice, once in January 2006 and once in February 2008. Both experiences were pleasant, in 2006 I flew from Koh Samui airport (brilliant semi-outdoor airport) to Bangkok, the flight was on time, fast ... ...flew with them was earlier this year, check in and out was clockwork, although after rushing to get ready for an early flight after a night out drinking, I had put many items that you can't carry on flights nowadays into my hand luggage, which meant I had to have a trip to boots once we'd landed! But this does mean that good security measures are in place and they passed the test that I'd set them! ...

...there is by air with Bangkok Airways.
Flight lasts 1 hour 20 mins compared to an overnight journey by train and then a boat journey. Cost substantially more at 1500 Bahts but that equals out at around £30. Planes are new and service is excellent. Only one class available.
Flight is comparable to any domestic UK BA flight with more affable staff!
If you are arriving at Bangkok by plane and want to head straight to the islands walk 5 mins to the ...

Its now possible to buy direct international flights to Ko Samui but mostly only from other asian countries flying with BangkokAirways. For a trip from europe its easier to go direct to Phuket or Bangkok and then buy an onwards BangkokAirways flight to Samui Airport. This the most comfortable option but also the most expensive.
Overnight trains are OK, cheap and functional but you have to sleep. If you make too much noise the locals get very angry.
There are various bus/ferry combo tickets which are by far the cheapest option but also are definately the most uncomfortable (especially the overcrowded minibuses) and are regularily involved in accidents. Remeber never to eat or drink anything offered to you by strangers on a bus or train. Unfortunately many people have been drugged and robbed this way. ...
Advantages: Grand Palace, Good onward connections Disadvantages: Noise, smell, pollution, overcrowding
There is little to keep you in Bangkok - the Grand Palace is a must-see however. The place is smelly, polluted and charmless - the complete opposite of so much of the rest of Thailand. Bangkok's saving grace is its excellence as a travel hub - BangkokAirways do great deals internally and increasingly through SE Asia and I've seen 3D/2N packages to the Maldives from here for 199US. For accommodation avoid the Khoa San road - overpriced farang haven that lives on a reputation long gone - far better to visit www.asiatravelmart.com in advance and pick up a hotel at anything up to 80% off the rack rate - after wandering round this city you need a good shower and a bit of comfort. For getting around try and use the river taxis (around 8 baht a trip) or the skytrain (more expensive but efficient and quick). Travelling by road is dangerous ...
Advantages: Good value, affordable premium economy, attentive staff Disadvantages: Seat a little uncomfortable for longhaul
LHR to BKK is approx 11.5 hours, while the return is an hour longer..
The seat pitch in Premium Economy is 38? which is a lot better than a 30-32? pitch which you would get in economy cabins, particularly at the price, which was comparable to the best BA deal I could get. If you really want to splash out, then the business and first cabins have pitches of around 62? and 71? respectively. The premium economy seats have separate TV?s with eight TV channels, plus audio channels to choose from.
My ticket in Premium economy cost £666 plus airport taxes of £83. This included the shuttle from GLW ? LHR and the BangkokAirways flight from BKK ? Koh Samui.
So in summing up, all in all I think that Eva Air offer excellent value for money (especially if you book though a decent agent such as Trailfinders) and if you have booked, you have ...
