Bangkok - Excellent for Shopping
Review of Bangkok in general by dance

Advantages: Cheap cheap cheap
Disadvantages: Traffic !!!

...food are spicy. This Bangkok trip is more on shopping experience in Bangkok so if you need to know things like when does the Grand Palace open, I can't help. Day 1 We flew in to Bangkok Airport on a Thursday morning from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). We took the first AirAsia flight out (which departed at 8.05am) flight duration was 2 hours 5 minutes. Bangkok time is one hour behind Malaysia time. The airport is huge (it's the new Bangkok airport) and ...
...There are a lot of Bangkok maps at the arrival hall so remember to grab one as different maps have discount coupons attached. We booked a hotel package + airport transfer with a local travel agent so we didn't have to find out how to get to our hotel. We did notice a lot of signs saying that you should get a licensed taxi from the airport which we believe is a lot safer as some taxis in Bangkok tend not to switch on their meters and you will end ... 4 days in Bangkok in Feb 2006 through Thomas Cook
Review of General: Bangkok by alimcc21

Advantages: lots to do, friendly, good value for money, easy to get around, cultural, lovely hotels
Disadvantages: they're desperate to get your money by any means, humid, smelly

I'd heard such different things about this place before I went. A friend of my boyfriend's went for 2 weeks by herself and absolutely loved everything about it. But everyone else who had been said 3 or 4 days was more than enough. Then there was my manager who was only there as a stop off between flights and he absolutely hated it. I was met by a Thomas Cook rep at the airport and taken to my hotel in a private car, which apparently is standard ...
...tips from someone from Bangkok, but the last thing you want after a long flight is the hard sell of day trips! The streets are mucky and crowded and there are market stalls and food stalls almost everywhere you look. I have to admit I never tried any of the roadside food even though you could get a whole meal for about 20p. I'm normally up for almost anything, but fly ridden stir-frys was pushing it a bit. The hotels in Bangkok are amazing though ... Read review

The Extreme City
Review of Pattaya (Bangkok) by ld2212

Advantages: Good weather all year round
Disadvantages: Travel Brochures do not give a good representation of Pattaya

I arrived in Pattaya in August 04 to start a diving internship to become a PADI instructor. As part of the package my accomodation was included so I was staying in Jomtiem which is just outside the main centre of Pattaya. As a 26 year old female I was at first a bit daunted by Pattaya. I had read reviews and already new about it's reputation for being the sex capital of Thailand but many reviews had stated that it was only in specific areas. Once ...
...street and side street in Pattaya you are shouted at by the bar girls to try and get you to come and drink in their bar. In the majority of bars, the girls are working thereare literally for sale. Having said that I did not feel threatened or unsafe, it just took a little bit of getting used to. As well as the bars there are the gogo bars which are open to all, and any stories you have heard about the shows that you can see in these bars are probably ... Read review

A must visit
Review of Kanchanaburi (Bangkok) by littledevilxx

Advantages: A little adventure
Disadvantages: basic

Kanchanaburi is a very special place. I have been to Thailand twice for a month each time and I made sure I revisited Kanchanaburi the second time. Kanchanaburi is about 2 hours drive west of Bangkok, some people take only a day to visit on an organised tour and only go to the war graves and the bridge over the river Kwai ( which got its fame from the film of the same name). Although it is interesting to do these things it is worth a longer stay ...
...which was organised through a tour operator in Bangkok me and my partner stayed in some very basic accomodation on the river, infact it was so basic we had to more some where else. this accomodation was part of kitty raft tour. I do recomend staying in accomodation that is more expensive on its own island! Its name is Kasem Island resort, it has its own boat to go back and forward between mainland. Whilst there you should also check out the Tiger ... Read review

Computer Land
Review of Pantip Plaza (Bangkok) by Scott

Advantages: Everything for your PC and beyond
Disadvantages: Some junk stuff

Pantip Plaza is the capital of Thailand as far as technology is concerned! For hardware such as computers, consoles, peripherals, digital cameras and the like the range is excellent. Prices are about the same as the cheapest you will find in the UK. For software, prices are incredibly cheap (mostly copies) - especially for "compilations" of software on CD. Video CD's are also available - both Karaoke and movies, prices start at about 2 pound a original ... Read review
