For a family of 4 our total package of half board, flights, transfers, ski equipment hire came to just under £2000 for 1 week. This is a rock bottom price compared to other destinations for a similar holiday. The first day dragged on because of long queue to get ski equipment (advise recovery from journey on this day especially with young children). Better to pick up equipment on 2nd day of holiday-hardly any queues at all. The gondola ( transport up the mountain ) is new and efficient, it covered 3km of beautiful mountainscape. On arrival at the slopes you have to find tour host to be grouped with similar level skiers. This proved a little haphazard but got there in the end with adults together with the lovely Georgi and children with the very kind and patient Tseautlow. The apres ski was incredibly cheap- a meal out in local, hospitable village of Bansko cost £35 for group of 7!! Our hotel Bansko was a little to far from the gondola station even with transport provided, would suggest closer hotel on Pirin Street. Facilities are all very good and pristine due to economic growth as one of the most reasonable ski destinations in Eastern Europe. They are bidding for 2010 winter olympics as well as joining the EU in 2007 thus ensuring an even more thought after town and country.

Advantages: cheap, traditional Bulgarian culture and buildings, excellent ski school Disadvantages: low altitude - though ski season usually runs from Dec - April
