Bar Risa is also on the same property as Jongleurs comedy club which is upstairs and open until 2am (It turns into a club after 11!). I have often (occasionally) been to Bar Risa after work and at first I was very taken with the place. Originally the patrons were all very up market, Solicitors, professionals and trendy night goers but lately the clientele seems to have moved elsewhere and the bar has become a lot more casual. ... more

The canal is one of the best areas for bars in Nottingham. I count seven within about 500 meters of each other starting from Fellow?s Morton & Clayton one end and the Irish centre the other.

The bar is famous for its 2-4-1 offer which started as two for one on everything. They have obviously realized they were losing money and have now limited the choice. You can still get bottles of house wine, pints of fosters, bottles of Stella and a few Alco pops on the offer from 5 until 8 every day! The other choices of alcohol are fairly typical for the rest of the canal. Guinness (quite good!) Fosters, 1664 and Tetley?s. I've never seen anyone having a coffee though, I don't think its done in happy hour! The prices of drinks are higher with the offer so they only work out slightly cheaper nowadays.
The foods served are the normal baguettes and sandwiches, burgers and pasta. It is not to a great standard and is a little expensive. If you are hungry and around the canal I suggest you go to the Canal House bar just around the corner as their food is much better and has more choice.
Lately they seem to be letting the place slip a little. I went a few weeks ago and I tried three stools before I found one that didn't wobble like it could collapse at any moment (and I am quite slight!). The interior is on two floors with a bar downstairs with a few seats and sofas and the upstairs has most of the seating area along with the toilets and another bar which I have never seen open!
Although not the best bar on the canal I think it beats its neighbor (The Waterfront) by a long chalk. Bar Risa is a nice place to go for the two for one offer but not a place I would stay all night. It?s fine as the last stop before going to Jongleurs if you have booked!

Bar Risa is where I tend to start the night if I'm going out around the Waterfront. The bar offer 2-4-1 deals on selected lagers and bottles, making it a good place to get an evening started before moving on to more up-market bars.
Risa is very Wetherspoons-esque, with cheap drinks and a boring, modern but un-interesting interior. The clientele are mostly students during term time, as the bar, like the waterfront acts as a pre-Ocean watering hole. ... ...nightclub :)
To me Bar Risa is one of those bars that "does what it says on the tin", it is a cheap, spacious bar that offers average service, average surrounding and cheap drinks (2-4-1 on Fosters, Guiness, Kronenberg, Reef, Becks etc). That is the best thing about it, like Wetherspoons, its not trying to be anything its not, it merely provides and entry-level bar with good offers on beer and bottles. ...
