BGI is a nice airport these days

Advantages: Al-Fresco Check-In
Disadvantages: Lack of eating/drinking facilities after security

I visited Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) back in March 2007. We were staying in Barbados before flying out to Trinidad to watch some World Cup cricket. We arrived at BGI from London Gatwick with Virgin Atlantic. I had last been to BGI in May 2006 prior to this trip. It hadn't changed much, but what had got better was the duty free shopping. I'll go into this a bit later. Like many carribean airports, when you arrive there is no jetty/airbridge, ...
...is fine as long as the weather is nice and sunny (which it fortunately was on my 2 visits there) However, I'm not sure if they have alternate 'airstairs' with a canopy over them for more inclement weather situations. After climbing down the stairs you are ushered into the arrivals hall. Fortunately, despite only having a few immigration desks, the queue doesn't take all that long. Even with a fully loaded Boeing 747 coming in. After completing the ...

BLowing bubbles in Barbados

Advantages: Really good & some very untouched sites...loads of turtles!
Disadvantages: Can be more expensive than other islands

...3 dive shops in total. Barbados has some really good wrecks, from Carlisle bay where there are 4 wrecks at very shallow depth & on one dive site, to the Stavronikita, which is 45m at it's deepest. This one really is fantastic!! There are numerous fringing reefs with loads of life & the visibilty is pretty good (not so good after hurricanes in other ares). There can be a few Shonky dive shops around, but most are pretty good. The last one I worked ...
...operation, it is run by a Scotsman & his wife, they are very professional. There is just so much to see down there, turtles are in abundance, though there are no sharks. Up to you whether this is a good idea or not. Highly recommended diving & plenty of it!!!!! ...

square war memorial and fountain barbados

Advantages: Off the track from the tourists
Disadvantages: the heat in the open

The war memorial commonly known as 'The Cenotaph' is actually one of Barbados's newest monuments. It was made to commemorate the brave soldiers who left Barbados to help England fight in the two world wars. The Fountain was built in 1865 to commemorate the advent of running water into Bridgetown. Most tourists to Barbados when they hit Bridgetown tend to head to the shops and yes I'm one of them as well! The memorial is at the heart of Bridgetown, ...
...the descending hordes of people. People usually know where the memorial and fountain are in Barbados but have they ever really looked at them, the answer to that unfortunately is probably no. To be honest there isn't much there. There is the monument with plaques that list the heros that died in the wars, and a fountain surrounded with stone dolphins. Apart from that there isnt anything else. But it is well looked after and you can tell that people ...

Barbados west cost

Advantages: Along the west coast of Barbados facing the carribean sea
Disadvantages: 2 bus rides or a 15 min drive away from the gap for superb nightlife.

One of the many beautiful beaches on the west coast of Barbados. Glorious golden sands and crystal blue inviting waters. The people are very welcoming and if you are lucky you might be offered some local delicacies such as flying fish and rice or a chicken roti. You are almost guaranteed a good tale in the local shop. A good place for swimming or just relaxing on the beach. Cave sheperd the main Department store on the island is within walking distance ...

Barbados - Paradise Island...Yea Mon!

Advantages: Weather
Disadvantages: Airport Looks Like Back Yard

I had the most amazing time in Barbados (November 2005.) After an awful flight which lasted almost 13 hours due to bad weather conditions we landed in Barbados (this was after we landed in St.Lucia because we couldn't land in Barbados due to a "tropical storm") When we landed the weather was dull...it was raining and I thought we had landed in the middle of no-where. I looked around and all there was, was something that seemed to be a shed, it was ...
...were miserable. I didnt know what I had let myself in for but my holiday soon picked up. My hotel was absolutely stunning. Situated right on the beach front, it was heaven. (I stayed at "Blue Orchids") The weather soon picked up as well and temperatures were soaring. I came home with a golden tan after lying on the beach and around the pool. Theres lots to do in Barbados, from snorkling to going on a Submarine, shopping in Bridgetown and going on ...
