Champagne and camel rides at Cable Beach Resort

Advantages: Beautifully landscaped grounds, high quality accommodation
Disadvantages: Need a GPS to find your room

I was looking forward to my stay at plush four star Cable Beach Club Resort in Broome, Western Australia. According to their advertising material, I could expect Asian serenity and Colonial Indulgence. It sounded great and friends had recommended it as a very pleasant place to stay. In total, I spent three nights here. Because it was included in a coach tour package that I'd booked, I didn't make a booking specifically for the hotel itself. However let it be said that the room rates vary. I saw one website (discoverwest.com.au) which was offering rooms from $A155 (incl breakfast) plus a free camel ride, but other quotes elsewhere were much more than this. The hotel runs a shuttle bus to Broome Airport to greet tired travellers. Or you can get a taxi to the resort ($10). First impressions of the resort were favourable. A porter ...

Voyager Beach Resort

Advantages: friendly people, rooms, pools, public areas very well looked after, different themes everyday
Disadvantages: food variation... but what was out was tasty!

. Unfortunately as stunning as the beach was, it was filled with beach sellers everyday so no sunbeds or relaxing down there! The complex also had a group of monkeys running around which were so funny and were great fun to watch... just make sure you close your balcony door when you go out!!! Animation were very good, all different activites throughout the day although did leave you alone if you wernt interested. However if you take part you will get colored beads that you can swap in the gift shop, which is probably one of the cheapest hotels gift shops i have stayed in! Evening entertainment was not too great, even the caribbean do it better, they do try, but we gave up by the 3nd night and chilled out in the bar. They also do different tours every day to local attractions which look good, but we didnt do as only there for a short time. We did ...

Not so Grand - Barbados

Advantages: Food, Location
Disadvantages: Poor Decor, Customer Service, Room Quality and more...

The not so Grand Barbados Beach resort is located on the west coast of Barbados in The Carlisle Bay Resort. A large property in need of renovation and modernisation which recently went under a refurbishment (lick of paint - outside). The hotel is 10 miles away from Barbados main airport Grantley Adams International, Bridgetown with a transfer time of around 20 minutes. The concept of the hotel when it first opened must have been a great one which went into a downward spiral and never recovered! It has a big fountain just outside reception which is rarely ever on and with black mould around it. A small pond of some description is located to one side with fish which can just be seen through the mould also. A large undercover area around the fountain is supposed to give the 'Grand' entrance where you would expect a bell boy to wait to ...
