Barbados Reggae Bus

Advantages: great fun
Disadvantages: avoid 3pm to 5pm

...experience! These are the 'reggae (mini) buses'! Otherwise known as ZR's (license plate letters!) the buses are WHITE some with a maroon stripe down the side. It transpired we were on Route 11. There were loads of them about … the service was more frequent, more regular, and ran later at night. Any trip on a reggae bus is nothing if not memorable. Our driver was an extremely relaxed fellow, smoking a thin cigarette throughout, sporting beard, dreadlocks, ...
...all locals, generated a great atmosphere as we went along ,chatting away, hopping on and off the bus. Quite a contrast to the sullen faces that so often populate our own buses nowadays. Everyone seemed to know someone else…loud friendly greetings and good humour everywhere. The driver used his distinctive musical horn frequently to attract prospective customers as he approached stops, official and unofficial. Our speed could be described as leisurely…certainly ...

TURTLEY COOL DUDES!

Advantages: Name a turtle after yourself or a loved one. How Cool!!!
Disadvantages: None!

This is a fantastic thing to do if you are a diver. There are a number of diveshops on the island & some of them do have a really good relationship with the UWI (university west indies) Green turtle project. They will sometimes allow you to go out with them turtle Tagging. This involves catching & logging the turtles, which although is not the nicest experience for the turtle, it is humane & over very quickly. This is done to log the mating, egg ...
...are a highly endangered species. If you are lucky enough tyou can even get a turtle named after you too! they tag the turtles back flipper with a number & your name is written down next to it. My daughter has a turtle swimming around the Caribbean who is about the same age as her & with her name. Now that is turtley cool! ...

Harrisons Cave, Barbados

Advantages: Well explained, interesting, something for all the family
Disadvantages: Not that easy to find

Harrison's caves are in the parish of St. Thomas they are quite difficult to find due to the fact that in Barbados they feel it is only necessary to put up a sign post every so often. Meaning that you will have come to several turn offs and junctions and not have a clue which way to go, its pot luck really!!! An island map is essential in this country! But as for the caves when you get there, they are fantastic, they are truly beautiful. The tours ...
...informed and the whole experience was delightful and a must for families. You really won't believe your eyes when you see the stalactites, stalagmites, streams, lakes and underground waterfalls, its like being in an enchanted fairy tale world. As your looking at the amazing wonders before your eyes it is difficult to believe that it is all real. My children felt like they were in a magical wonderland! The whole journey starts by watching an informative ...

Flower Forest Barbados (A wonder to behold).

Advantages: Stunning flowers and scenery
Disadvantages: A lot of walking around in a hot, very humid climate

The flower forest at Barbados is 50 acres of stunning flowers, rolling grass and stunning views. The whole experience is like being in a mini rainforest. Situated in the 'Scotland district' of Barbados it is very close to Harrison's cave and Welchman Hall Gully so its easy to combine visits and make a day of it. When we went we spent about three hours there, the flowers were amazing with plagues situated around the forest giving details on the ...
...can blame them!!! The flower forest is open from 9am -5pm 7 days a week. Admission charges do change, but it was about 7.00USD and children were half price. There are tours to the forest but note that your visit is limited to forty five minutes or so, on these tours because of taxi waiting times. Or you can drive yourself. Well worth a visit, good value for money. Both you and your children will honestly feel like you have stepped onto a giant's ...

monkies every where

Advantages: its secluded with beautiful suroundings
Disadvantages: if your walking take some elastoplasts

The Hotel is on the beaten track (literaly), on the top of a hill and 2 mile away from anywhere, but when you get ther it has its advantages beautiful suroundings very lush gardens that are maintained every day. The appartments are clean and spacious but very dated, tv and radios in all rooms and bedding changed every day with a good view of the palm trees and pool Taps drip, cooker takes 2 weeks to heat and doors and window havent exactly got mortice ...
...quite expensive but you dont have to pay for loungers and the pool is clean and sizable with a baby pool attached with breathtaking views of the island below. Staff very friendly but when i say slow I mean they've got the clutch in for reverse.... SO a tip of advice book your evening meal in the morning..So youve got a fighting chance of getting fed. Games area and the bar has lots of potential, and well designed but a bit dusty.. Staff vey ...
