Cádiz. The place where I was born, and the place where I?ve always live (and still do). The are two Cádiz, the province and the town. The province is a small one, if you compare it to others provinces from Spain, like Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia or here, in the south of Spain, Seville. Cádiz, the town, is the capital of the province, and its also a very small one, with 150,000 inhabitants population. That makes Cádiz a ´familiar? place, a place in which everyone knows almost everyone. My home town is always busy at summer, although is not a typical Spanish town for holidays. That?s because as I said is a small town, and because Cádiz is one of those places Spanish people from other parts of the country spend their holidays at, and not only foreign people (but also). Advantages: History, beahches, seafood, sherry Disadvantages: Can get unbearably hot in summer, the harsh Atlantic wind
The old lady sits in a deck chair on the pavement outside the building that houses her apartment. She shouts across to the waiters who are setting up tables outside the restaurants that line the street. One of them fetches her a glass of wine. A few people are sitting outside on of the bars at the end of the street. One of them is a young woman sipping a glass of chilled sherry; she is looking forward to eating later if only she can choose which enticing eatery to stop at and what to pick from the extensive choice of delicacies from the sea.
The city is Cadiz, situated on the southern tip on Spain and reputedly the oldest city in the western Europe. Advantages: Immaculate hotel, great entertainment team, lovely location and superb food. Disadvantages: Remoteish location, lacking room facilities and the damn bingo!
We had been looking forward to our holiday to Mallorca for such a long time we thought it was never going to arrive. After a hard year full of ups and downs we were more than ready for the break and had built up the trip into something that had to be the perfect getaway. Of course, a vital part of our holiday would be how good the hotel was so it is with some trepidation that we arrived at the Barcelo Cala Vinas on June 14th 2008.
