Why I keep going back to the Sur Menorca

Advantages: Excellent place for young children.
Disadvantages: Quite a way from the main village, but reflected in the price.

My children and I have been to the Sur Menorca 4 times and currently trying to book for next year. It's a basic hotel, it isn't 5-star, so don't expect luxuries, but it's clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly, especially the receptionists. The pool areas are generally very clean, although in the summer it is often very busy at the main pool. However, just behind the apartment block is a very big toddler's pool, very safe for the young children, and right next to the play area. My children spend most days in that area and I can relax while they find plenty to do. The food is a bit repetitive, especially if you're there for 2 weeks, but it's clean, fresh and the platters are replaced regularly during meal times. Barcelo Cala Vinas a scenic place to please us?

Advantages: Immaculate hotel, great entertainment team, lovely location and superb food.
Disadvantages: Remoteish location, lacking room facilities and the damn bingo!

We had been looking forward to our holiday to Mallorca for such a long time we thought it was never going to arrive. After a hard year full of ups and downs we were more than ready for the break and had built up the trip into something that had to be the perfect getaway. Of course, a vital part of our holiday would be how good the hotel was so it is with some trepidation that we arrived at the Barcelo Cala Vinas on June 14th 2008. Booked through Thomas Cook the Barcelo Cala Vinas is part of a chain. The hotel is situated in the quite and serene area of Cala Vinyes, Calvia. Somewhat off the beaten track, the hotel is situated twenty minutes walk from Magalluf and is just over an hour via coach transfer from Palma airport. Menorca, a family paradise?

Advantages: Scenic, quiet family orientated beaches, short travel time.
Disadvantages: Expensive, maybe too quiet for some.

When booking our first family holiday abroad, we wanted somewhere quiet and not a 'party' resort. We also wanted somewhere with a short flight time. Menorca (or Minorca) fit the bill. It was described in the brochures as a quiet island with lovely beaches, and was a 2 hour flight from the UK. We decided to book a package holiday so that we had someone to hold responsible if something went wrong with any aspect of it. We booked through First Choice and paid £1450 for a weeks self catering for 2 adults and 4 children the 2nd week of July. We booked a 2 bed apartment.
