I am the appointed social secretary for my department where I work and after a very long and arduous project our Financial Director called me into the office and asked if I could arrange a Congratulatory Team Dinner for over 150 staff for the end of a particular project. "Pick the place, reasonable budget and I want to play golf" he said. So off I went and had a think about it and decided that we would stage this event at Shrigley Hall. All the way through the booking process the Conference Staff and all of the hotel staff were exceptional, not only were they fantastically helpful in suggesting local attractions but they organised a golf tournament for my senior managers and Finance Director to attend on the morning of the event. The perfect stopover for Manchester Airport

Advantages: Fabulous setting
Disadvantages: I only got to stay one night

One of the so called perks in my line of work is that the business that employs me occasionally decides that now is a good time to bring staff together in a bonding and self development session away from the workplace. While the benefits of such breaks for the workforce are usually short lived, it does give me the opportunity every year or two to enjoy the hospitality of hotels and there are some poor ones out there! One of the better ones I have visited is the excellent Shrigley Hall Hotel, located between Stockport and Macclesfield in a huge country estate on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Buckatree Hall Hotel

Advantages: In a remote scenic area, lots of facilites
Disadvantages: slightly expensive but still worth it

Buckatree Hall Hotel - Telford Shropshire The hotel stated above is part of the Swallow Hotels chain, not like your average chain hotel this one is stunning my other half and I stayed there a couple of times going back after the first visit as we enjoyed it so much. It is a 2 star hotel but I believe it is well worth of more, it has 62 rooms catering for all needs and being very family friendly, they have single rooms, double rooms and family rooms and where possible will arrange and room to suit your individual needs. Buckatree Hall Hotel is situated just off the M54 in a remote location down a few back roads, it has a peaceful quiet surrounding area which puts you in the mood for your relaxing break away.
