Who lives in a house like this?
Review of Casa Mila by atticusuk

Advantages: Great architecture, well worth seeing.
Disadvantages: Expect to queue to get entry

...and one of them was Casa Mila or La Pedrera as it is otherwise known, this Gaudi designed building is now a World Heritage site and is most famous for the quite spectacular roof that it boasts however there is more to it than just that although to be honest the roof alone justifies the entry fee in my opinion and if you are visiting Barcelona I would definitely recommend it as a suitable place to visit for all the family as my children really enjoyed ...
...Getting There and Admission Casa Mila is located on the corner of Passeig de Gracia and Provenca in the Eixample district of Barcelona. The nearest metro station is Diagonal on metro line 3 and the house is right opposite one of the metro exits. Being a main through fare there are also a number of bus routes that can be used however we found the metro to be the fastest and easiest to work out on our trip. Entry cost was 7 euro each which was not ... Read review

The Casa Batllo - Possibly Gaudi's finest work
Review of Casa Batlló (Barcelona) by koshkha

Advantages: One of the best examples of Catalan Modernism
Disadvantages: Very expensive

...the almost impossible to pronounce, Casa Batllo. Earlier in the year I had attended a big industry conference in Barcelona and we'd had the conference 'gala' dinner in the Casa Batllo so I had already had a bit of a look around. Now I wanted to show my husband this little gem and get a bit more time to linger and look around. As I mentioned, the Casa Batllo is on Passeig de Gracia - just a few blocks down the road and on the other side from La Pedrera, ...
...degree of accessibility in the Casa Batllo makes it my favourite of the two. ~A little bit of History~ Gaudi didn't build 43 Passeig de Gracia - in fact there had already been a building there for nearly 30 years before he got his hands on it. The owner in 1900 was a local businessman called Josep Batllo Casanovas (great name, means new house - how appropriate). Originally he wanted the whole building knocked down and rebuilt from scratch but changed ... Read review

Good cafe with net facilities
Review of The International Traveller's Cafe, Barcelona by nikeair

Advantages: Good place to meet fellow travellers
Disadvantages: You won't feel like you're exactly 'immersed' in Spanish culture!

...and internet cafe set near the centre of Barcelona, just off 'La Rambla'. You can spot it immediately because of the numerous flags and souvenirs from around the world that make the place so characteristic. It's mainly frequented by backpackers and other travellers, but you'll find the occasional Spaniard lurking around. Inside you can do anything from surf the internet (they have 4 or 5 computers with access to the net at reasonable prices), have ... Read review

The ancient avenue of the city
Review of La Rambla (Barcelona) by gilipu

Advantages: Flowers, artists...
Disadvantages: Robberies

...of the city. The name La Rambl derives from the Arabic "ramla" meaning "sandy ground" because initially the place was a stream. La Rambla starts in Plaça Catalunya (Catalonia Square) and ends in the monument to Columbus,. During this route, the avenue receives five different names each one describing a section of the street: 1) The first one is called La Rambla de Canaletes due to the fountain named "Font de les Canaletes", found there since ancient ...
...next section is known as La Rambla dels Estudis (Studies) because of the Estudi General (medieval university). Don't try to look for it, the was suppressed by Philip V after the War of Succesion and it was demolished in the XIX th century. 3) Going down will enter the stretch known as La Rambla de les Flors (Flowers). This was the only place where flowers were sold in the XIXth century. 4) The next one is La Rambla del Centre, also known as La Rambla ... Read review

Poble Espanyol's glimpse of Spanish architecture
Review of Poble Espanyol (Barcelona) by Writing321

Advantages: Great way to get a feel for Spanish life
Disadvantages: Long walk, need to concentrate of the map to find it

...that we were drawn to Poble Espanyol, helped by the brochure's 10 percent discount. We don't even know where we acquired it, but we are really pleased we found it, somewhere. Due to high summer temperatures we decided to have an afternoon siesta and venture out at 5pm and with all the walking ahead of us it was a wise decision. We took the underground and got off at Espanya underground, I think, and what a site to behold when coming up to the ...
...to walk up to the Poble Espanyol. The architecture around this part of town is just superb. Memorable and definitely a photographers paradise. There are plenty of out-door cafes and bars here, sit around under the trees and lap up the Spanish, Barcelona evening before venturing along the road, and up the hill a little to Poble Esnapnyol. We took advantage of our 10 percent discount on the pamphlet, one paid seven euros and the other a little less, ... Read review
