Comfortable hotel - but not a great 5 star Advantages: Central location. Quiet and comfortable Disadvantages: Current refurbishment. Limited facilities ...flights and 4 nights at Le Meridien. The hotel was rated as 5 stars and had a great position on Las Ramblas. Price for the hotel was approximately £150 per night for a deluxe double including breakfast. On arrival, it was disappointing to find that the main reception area and lounge was being refurbished, so we were directed to a temporary reception which was very busy, and full of cases as people departed for cruise ships etc. Our room was not ready, ... ...a room on the 3rd floor. Initial impressions were good, as it was newly refurbished in a smart, minimalist style, and the bathroom was large, with a huge walk-in shower. Unfortunately, there was no bath, so check on this if this is important for you. The view was also disappointing - the back wall of some offices and appartments. Due to the refurbishment, public areas were very limited. Modern luxury dating from the 17th century Advantages: Luxurious, Clean, Trendy Disadvantages: Expensive, Not family friendly The Hotel Claris is located at walking distance away from Barcelona's main city centre and main attractions such as The Ramblas and port, making it a conveinient palce to stay. I stayed at the hotel in 2008 and fell in love with it. As one walks through the main entrance, one feels as though one is entering an ancient, traditional Spanish palace, with paladian columns and achitecture, in fact, this is exactly what the building originally was. However, ... ...architecture with the neatest modern styles. The rooms are very luxurious with all modern amenities one would expect from a five star hotel. The food is also wondeful, albeit a little expensive. Barcelona Hilton a must Advantages: Ideal location for business/conference guests Disadvantages: Not for general tourist WOW. Well i stayed at this hotel for a week during the recent MS IT Forum and what a fantastic location. This hotel is located next door to Barcelona's premire conference centre and a fantastic shopping mall. The hotel itself is exactly what you expect when you think Hilton, very plush reception and bar area staffed by some extremely friendly staff with great language skills. the service is superb and professional yet not pretentious like some high ... ...luxurious and very comfortable with amazing views of the city. From my room i could see across the city taking in Gaudi's cathederal and the olympic village. Transport to/from the hotel is ideal, Trams run very efficently and economically, the metro can be a little crowded but outside of peak times is fine, a lot better than the london tube. one ticket can be used on these and the local bus service for a zonal charge very similar to london. My experience on the rambla in Barcelona Advantages: There are many great restaurants, exciting place, great nightlife and friendly people Disadvantages: It is quite crowded, some shops/restaurants may be expensive I have been to Barcelona twice and i had unforgetable experiences both times. If you walk along the Rambla, you may be surprised at how exciting it actually is. In my opinion Barcelona is one of the most exciting cities in Europe. There are many great restaurants along the rambla, the locals are friendly and the level of service to expect in the restaurants along the rambla is quite high. Great Location, Great Staff - Husa Meson Castilla Advantages: Great location, comfortable rooms Disadvantages: Not many facilities ...the hotel himself describes the Husa Meson Castilla as 'a simple two star hotel, but for those who are watching their budget, it is not only moderately priced, but also well located and offers an old-world ambience'. I would agree whole heartedly with this statement, but don't be put off by the lack of more stars. As you may know, stars are awarded for facilities in a hotel and not the standard of the rooms, etc. Whilst this hotel doesn't have masses ... ...prices. - -Location- - The location is perfect. Just down a well-lit and fairly buzzing side street off the Ramblas, it's a mere five minute walk to the centre of the action. The nearest underground train station is at the top of the Ramblas (probably an extra two minutes walk) and is called Catalunya.
