Hotel Balmes - great hotel in a great spot of Barcelona! Pricey, small rooms, noisy Advantages: Free WiFi, free safe Disadvantages: Pricey, small rooms, noisy ...the reception desk of the H10 Itaca hotel in Barcelona, though it was done well in advance. I do not know which institution is "guilty" - Active Hotels or H10 staff. Fortunately this problem was solved by the smart guy at the reception, but the fact itself is disappointing (what if there were no free rooms). 2. Room was very small and noisy, overlooking the main street. Of course, in principle one could close the window, and to switch on the ventilation ... ...on the same level as that of the noisy street. 3. The room service was careless. One day we had to ask for the shampoo, etc. 4. There are no carpeting on the floors. It is itself uncomfortable, but the main problem was that the staff usually started cleaning the neighboring rooms very early (even at about 7), loudly sliding the beds, and producing a lot of noise that could be heard in our room. 5. Great Stay Advantages: Good price & Location Disadvantages: Facilites The hotel is located outside of the city centre but unlike some cheap hotels is actually in Barcelona. From the airport we didnt find getting there too hard. We travelled by metro, approx time from centre of Barcelona is about 15mins. The hotel is in a mainly residential area with a supermarket and a few restuarants nearby. In the warmer months it is perfect as the beach is only 5 mins walk away. The rooms were comfortable and clean, with tv and ... ...didnt steam up, which I thought was quite clever. The rooms were cleaned everyday to a high standard. The view from our room was something to be desired but you do not spend much time in the room anyway. The only major problem with the hotel is facilities, it does have a swimming pool but this is outdoor and therefore not open all the time. There isnt a restuarant on site and no gym. Great Location, Great Staff - Husa Meson Castilla Advantages: Great location, comfortable rooms Disadvantages: Not many facilities ...the hotel himself describes the Husa Meson Castilla as 'a simple two star hotel, but for those who are watching their budget, it is not only moderately priced, but also well located and offers an old-world ambience'. I would agree whole heartedly with this statement, but don't be put off by the lack of more stars. As you may know, stars are awarded for facilities in a hotel and not the standard of the rooms, etc. Whilst this hotel doesn't have masses ... ...prices. - -Location- - The location is perfect. Just down a well-lit and fairly buzzing side street off the Ramblas, it's a mere five minute walk to the centre of the action. The nearest underground train station is at the top of the Ramblas (probably an extra two minutes walk) and is called Catalunya. Europark Hotel, Barcelona Advantages: Great Location Disadvantages: None The Location Of Europark Hotel The Europark is a three star hotel in L'Eixample district on Arago. It is in a fantastic location very close to the Passeig de Gracia and a short walk to Las Ramblas and the Barri Gotic (about fifteen minutes walk). The metro and trains get you anywhere you want to go in Barcelona and its only a five minute walk to the nearest station. The metro and trains are reasonably priced. Metro is 1 euro per ride.
