Strawberries and Champagne for breakfast! Advantages: Excellent breakfast, great location, excellent value for money Disadvantages: none that we found This hotel is a great find! The location is perfect, just a 2 minute walk to a metro station and 2 minutes to the Olympic harbour. We arrived at the hotel by taxi, but apart from that we walked or used the Metro the whole weekend. The area around the hotel was really quiet over the weekend, but felt very safe - my friend and I are both young females and never had any problems walking around the area on our own. The rooms were spacious and well ... ...The breakfast was the best i have ever had in a hotel - amazing buffet, everything you could imagine - including the widest selection of lovely fruit. You can't beat strawberries and champagne for breakfast!! I think we paid about £80-90 each for the 2 nights which included breakfast - worth the money itself without the room!! We stayed there in Feb 2006 so i imagine prices have probably gone up since, but excellent value for money. Hotel Balmes - great hotel in a great spot of Barcelona! Advantages: Great location to Metro stations Modern, clean and comfortable furnishings Good staff Disadvantages:* Pool is small Expensive food and drinks in the hotel ...we walked past! Tryp Apolo, Barcelona (August 2006) Advantages: Easy access to Montjuic, La Rambla and the metro system Disadvantages: Some rooms face onto the main Avenue Paral-lel I booked this hotel through AirMiles and paid for a suite upgrade locally. This hotel has a poor write up elsewhere we were prepared to change hotels but my our experience was much better than anticipated. All staff were polite, helpful and spoke good English. We had the suite on the 4th floor furthest from the lifts, facing the inner courtyard and heard little street noise: only the occassional emergency services siren. Each of the two rooms had ... ...split matresses, which my wife always appreciates. The bed linen was changed several times during our short stay. There was a single en-suite bathroom with the usual porcelain plus a bidet. All was very clean, although a little wear was showing in places. Despite being on the fourth floor the shower-over-bath had good water pressure with hot water delivered quickly. A hotel in central Barcalona Advantages: location Disadvantages: nonw I stayed in this holiday inn last time i visited Barcelona , I have stayed in holiday inn's before ni this country and thought i'd give it ago in Barelona as i was on a budget . this is a 186 bedroom hotel in the heart of barcelona. Pricey, small rooms, noisy Advantages: Free WiFi, free safe Disadvantages: Pricey, small rooms, noisy ...the reception desk of the H10 Itaca hotel in Barcelona, though it was done well in advance. I do not know which institution is "guilty" - Active Hotels or H10 staff. Fortunately this problem was solved by the smart guy at the reception, but the fact itself is disappointing (what if there were no free rooms). 2. Room was very small and noisy, overlooking the main street. Of course, in principle one could close the window, and to switch on the ventilation ... ...on the same level as that of the noisy street. 3. The room service was careless. One day we had to ask for the shampoo, etc. 4. There are no carpeting on the floors. It is itself uncomfortable, but the main problem was that the staff usually started cleaning the neighboring rooms very early (even at about 7), loudly sliding the beds, and producing a lot of noise that could be heard in our room. 5.
