I was tickled pink on the outskirts of Barcelona Advantages: Fantastic rooms - they thought of almost everything Disadvantages: A long way from the centre of the city ...The Spanish hotel chain Hesperia has taken a slightly difficult approach to the whole 'girly-room' challenge with their 'Pink Room' concept which I experienced at the Hesperia Sant Just on the outskirts of Barcelona. Apparently you can pre-book a pink room at no extra cost so I'm not sure if that's what our secretary did or if I was just randomly assigned to a Pinkie. I'd probably been in the room for about an hour before I twigged that something ... ...the details I discovered that Hesperia had listened to feedback from their women guests and realised that we were sick of massive bathrobes, slippers that were a zillion times too big and likely to trip us up, trouser presses but no iron, the wrong kind of coat hangers, a shaving kit but no cotton wool, lousy lighting in the bathrooms all those other little niggles. Right in the heart of Barcelona Advantages: great location, swimming pool, friendly staff, clean, tidy and attractive Disadvantages: no kettle! pool closed not in summer, expensive resturant ...nights in the 4 star Sunotel Central hotel in Barcelona in March 2008 with my partner and almost one year old. LOCATION Sunotel Central is situated in Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes which is one of Barcelona's major avenues. It is a great location which is right in the heart of Barcelona and a 5 minute walk to Las Ramblas, which is the main strip in Barcelona. It is also a 15-20 minute walk to Port Vale beach and harbour, and a 2 minute walk ... ...bug on the last day), infact we are hoping to revisit this year to see a couple more things we didn't fit in last time. And will I go back to Sunotel Central? Great Location, Great Staff - Husa Meson Castilla Advantages: Great location, comfortable rooms Disadvantages: Not many facilities ...the hotel himself describes the Husa Meson Castilla as 'a simple two star hotel, but for those who are watching their budget, it is not only moderately priced, but also well located and offers an old-world ambience'. I would agree whole heartedly with this statement, but don't be put off by the lack of more stars. As you may know, stars are awarded for facilities in a hotel and not the standard of the rooms, etc. Whilst this hotel doesn't have masses ... ...prices. - -Location- - The location is perfect. Just down a well-lit and fairly buzzing side street off the Ramblas, it's a mere five minute walk to the centre of the action. The nearest underground train station is at the top of the Ramblas (probably an extra two minutes walk) and is called Catalunya. Europark Hotel, Barcelona Advantages: Great Location Disadvantages: None The Location Of Europark Hotel The Europark is a three star hotel in L'Eixample district on Arago. It is in a fantastic location very close to the Passeig de Gracia and a short walk to Las Ramblas and the Barri Gotic (about fifteen minutes walk). The metro and trains get you anywhere you want to go in Barcelona and its only a five minute walk to the nearest station. The metro and trains are reasonably priced. Metro is 1 euro per ride. Hotel Balmes - great hotel in a great spot of Barcelona! Advantages: Great location to Metro stations Modern, clean and comfortable furnishings Good staff Disadvantages:* Pool is small Expensive food and drinks in the hotel ...we walked past!
