I have visited Barcelona twice and while I was away last year we decided to take a day trip to Barcelona again. Barcelona is the second largest Spanish city in population and is a major Mediterranean port, there is lots to do there and you could easily spend a couple of days there.

There are many things to do in Barcelona, other than shopping even though the shops in Barcelona are very good. Visit Mount Tipidarbo, there is a pretty church at the top, and a funfair for the kids, it also gives great views across the entire city, it is quite breathtaking.

One of the best sights to see is the Sagrada Familia,'the church of the sacred family'. This is Gaudi's huge unfinished cathedral, it bears the gothic design hallmarks as do many of the buildings in Barcelona. The intricate designs of the towers, makes it a spectacular sight to see, even though it is still being built.

The oldest section of the city was built on the harbour. This is crossed by the Rambla, a paved street extending from the harbour to the Plaza de Cataluna, the focal point of the city. The streets of the old section are narrow and crooked, in the newer sections they are wide and straight, and the buildings are modern. This area is great there are many markets just off of the Rambla and many street performers to entertain you. A visit to Barcelona is a great idea for a family, there is many things to do, including two funfairs and a zoo and the olypmic stadium is well worth a visit, but remember to take your swimming gear, you can go for a swim in the olympic swimming pool.
