What first pops into my mind when I think of the months I spent in Barcelona last year? The beautiful architecture, great shopping, amazing history, great weather, beautiful countryside. Las Ramblas, the city's "shopping promenade", is jam-packed full of things to do and see. And just round the corner is the amazing medieval part of the city, with outstanding buildings including the cathedral - still under rennovation, but the scaffolding barely interferes.
I strongly recommend staying in a little town just outside of the city center. I stayed in my brother's flat in a place named San Cugat; a little town with a monestry, cobbled roads all over and a direct train link to the center of Barcelona.
Don't limit yourselves when staying - take the train to Jerona, where there are tonnes of attractions to take in. Don't rely on the metro - walk!
Make sure not to forget to eat at a tapas bar at least once. I didn't get to because my mother didn't like the look of the squid... Squid is lovely! Pay no attention and try everything! Everything!!
Pay careful attention if you have valuables on your person. There is one woman who claims to be an American tourist who has lost her money. She asks everyone for change - asked me twice!
In the 2 months I spent there, I only got to see the tip of the ice burg. And there will be rain. It doesn't just fall on the plains.
