- and I'd never even heard of Gaudi when I went to Barcelona. In fact, as I'd won the trip in a competition, I hadn't read up on the city or anything. All I can say is that it's beautiful, and I've been dying to go back ever since. Mad, magical Gaudi architecture, living statues in the Rambelas, cafe con leche and churros for breakfast, day trips to the extraordinary Monserrat monastery up in the mountains (reachable only by extended ski-lift type things, it's so high up), Barcelona has it all and a coast to boot. Stay in the Barrio Gothic, where the streets are so narrow you can practically shake hands with the person opposite out of the window, drink your cafe con leche (milky coffee) in the cafe de la opera on the rambelas and just hang. The picasso museum is a must as is the surreal Parc Guell... words fail me, just go see for yourself
