Barcelona is only 2-hour flight away and the fare including tax is only around £100 or less... What are you doing this weekend?
Come to the beautiful seafront of Barcelona and enjoy the gentle sea breeze of Mediterranean Sea. You can even ride a cable car over the modern habour of Barcelona. It will take you to the clean sandy beaches (St Sebastia) just beyond the habour. The cable car also goes to a hill (Montjuic) where you'll find the vast Olympic Stadium (Estadi Olimpic), and a domed palace (Palau Nacional) which is now a museum of Catalan art. On top of the hill, there is a disused military fortress (Castell de Montjuic) that can be reached also by cable car. Up here, you'll appreciate the panoramic view of Barcelona city. To go down from Montjuic to street level, try the funicular railway (Funicular de Montjuic) or just walk down the long stairway of Palau Nacional.
Away from the seafront, there is a modern street market (La Rambla) with market stalls selling local handicrafts, fresh flowers, and live exotic pets. Barcelona has a long and rich history; you'll be amazed by the mystical Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic) nearby. It is a district of medieval buildings and churches with narrow alleyways. The main attraction here is the Cathedral of Barcelona (La Catedrel). If you have time, come back to see the Cathedral at night as well when it is illuminated by yellow floodlights.
Barcelona isn't Barcelona without the Sagrada Familia (La Segrada Familia). The church was designed to have a central spire and twelve towers to represent Jesus Christ and twelve Apostles but so far, it has only eight towers. And they have been building it since 1882! Anyway, the church is just magnificent in its present form.

Advantages: gorgeous climate, quick and easy to get too and has something to offfer everyone Disadvantages: language barrier could be an issue and isn't ideal for a beach holiday
