Bardonecheccia a good size working town up near the french border approx 1hour from Turin.Stayed in the three star DeGeney Hotel in the middle of town, wonderful food, served not buffets, comfortable and clean just a pain wlking down to the ski bus stop (100yds) but stored skis/boots at the ski hire shop at campo smith.
Skiing is in two area which are only connected by the very efficient ski bus's. The larger area is Campo Smith to Melezet, good tree lined pistes(almost deserted during the week),wide slopes suitable for intermediated/begineers with not too many challenging pistes around, good off-piste amongst the trees. At the top of the Colomion there is a wonderful small bar run by an ex Crystal rep Rachael who serves hot wine, sandwiches and hot chocolate with rum. Views over to Sauze D'oulx before trying the the Olympic(2006) run back down to the lifts.
Over at the Jafferau mountain skiing goes much higher by using the old double chair lifts up to 2750m and is even quieter than Campo Smith! but tends to be much colder, here the views are amazing with wonderful wide runs but beware the only way back down to the bottom is off piste.
There are lots of long long drag lifts throughout the area and outdated chair lifts. Prices were very reasonable for eating /drinking, only gripe is the traditional "hole in the floor"toilets.
the town has some good shopping/bars with a weekly market.
The town changes on a weekend with hordes from Turin using their weekend apartments. Lift queing and busy restaurants make a stark contrast to midweek.

sounds nice, could just have done with a few more details about the hotel, food, nightlife, skiing etc.

I was just in Sestriere, but I've never heard of Bardonecchia. Sounds very similar though! My fear is that they upgrade all the lifts and suddenly the resorts get a lot busier! Not a bad review, if you add a bit more detail let me know and I'll re-rate.
