Yesterday my husband and I took our children to Barry Island for a day out during the summer holidays. We live in Newport, which is about a 30 Minute car journey from Barry Island. THE LOCATION ------------------------ Barry Island is located on the South East Coastline of Wales, in the Vale of Glamorgan. It has always been an attractive location for people from South Wales, The Vale of Glamorgan, and the South Wales Valleys to visit for a family day out. THE HISTORY OF BARRY ISLAND ----------------------------------------------------- Barry Island Promenade was first connected to the mainland ... more

It proved to be really popular as we would always end up with other friends who had had the same idea. Our main reason for going was for the Pleasure Beach which is a fair ground as well as a bit of relaxing on the beach. Pleasure Beach is a fair ground that is always in situ, unlike the travelling fairs that find their ways around the country but it is more or less the same as these with the same ... more

Advantages Advantages not many these days, used to be great

    Disadvantages Disadvantages dull, drab, tacky

I used to go to Butlin's holiday camp in Barry Island every year for about five years with my parents, and it was brilliant, I loved every minute of it. The camp was excellent with great sports facilities, cinema, entertainment, fairground rides, everything you could need for a good time. We only left the camp a couple of times to have a look round Barry itself and visit the excellent fair there, look round the shops and so on.
