...Montreal is a city that is definitely worth visiting. It has many historical sites, such as the Notre-Dame Basilica, Hotel de Ville, Place d'Armes-, Place Royale and my favorite, the Place Montreal Trust Mall. It is also home to McGill University. We arrived in Montreal via the St. Lawrence River. We had been told that Montreal had an underground mall and were expecting something dark and sinister, but found a beautiful, modern, multi-level mall that was connected to the underground subway system. Those of us from the west coast who have never seen a subway system are in for quite an education.. It was originally built as public transportation so that people could get to work and school in the bad weather. Imagine barreling in the dark at a speed in excess of 50 mph,stopping for just a second while passengers get on and off... Read review

Advantages: getting aroung the city
Disadvantages: too much to see in a weekend

.... There are many narrow streets to meander through with traditional restaurants and cafés and bars too. The transport system is fast and efficient; from Lyon Perrache you can take the train (obviously), the bus station (national and international), the tram, the local buses and the underground system. For 4.20 euros a day you can use the tram, underground and local buses without limit. You can also take the funiculars up the steep cliffs to visit the roman amphitheatre and the Basilique Notre-Dame. At the top of the city (north of Perrache) is the Parc tete d'or. This is a massive park with formal gardens, rose gardens, a massive animal park where you can see elephants, panthers and giraffes etc., and plenty for the children to see and do. I can't praise this city enough. Old and new mix with ease and this gives a cosmopolitan feel to the city.... Read review
