One key to enjoying and appreciating London is to recognize that it is actually a collection of distinct communities--villages and towns collapsed somewhat unwillingly into a grand metropolis that seems always in a state of flux. Hence, today's visitors might go to Bloomsbury for glimpses of the upscale counterculture of the early 20th century or the British Museum, to Knightsbridge for shopping at Harvey Nichols or Harrods, to Notting Hill for the market stalls on Portobello Street, or to the East End for lessons on how immigrants and the working classes pulled themselves up by their bootstraps and by virtue of their own middle-class aspirations.

Advantages: Elegant.World famous stores.Luxury shopping Disadvantages: Very expensive.
...Knightsbridge is one of the most stylish, elegant and expensive, districts of London and if you enjoy shopping in style is the place to head for.Shopping here can be marvellous for this is the home of Harrods,which some claim to be the hub of the retailing universe.Certainly you can spend all day at this luxurious,huge store which reputedly has the best of everything. The trouble is that it is horrendously expensive.
Harvey Nicholls,109-123 Knightsbridge,is a first class,stylish store and a good joint to seek out designer clothes. The service is good,less stuffy than at Harrods,and you can get a excellent meal at the trendy fifth floor restaurant.It was supposedly the late Princess Diana's favourite store in town.
The cognoscenti may still go to Paris and Milan for high fashion but London is certainly the place to shop for knitwear...

Advantages: The West End is very nice! Disadvantages: No disadvantages
...All the historical places and famous parks are in the West End. The West End, spreading from the political centre at Westminster includes the political centre at Westminster includes the shopping area of Knightsbridge, Oxford street, Picadilly Circus and the fashionable Covent Garden; it hosts museums and galleries, among them are the Tate Gallery, the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery and the British Museum. In the West End there are houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace. The best known streets are: Whitehall with important Government offices. Downing street, the residence of the Prime Minister and Fleet Street which stands for the press....
