Advantages: In easy reach of town centre, staff very friendly & helpful, Clean Disadvantages: Surrounding area a bit industrial
...I chose to take my boyfriend to Amsterdam for his 21st birthday but all the hotels in the City Centre that were in my price range had awful reviews, then i came across the Golden Tulip in Zanndam.
Although it is not in the city centre it is so easy to get there from this lovely hotel it's worth the extra journey to stay in a much nicer hotel. The train station is right next to the hotel (although there is no noise) and it is only 2-3 Euros return. We used to go out in the morning, come back late afternoon and then head back out in the evening and never found it a problem catching the train. It was also very easy to catch the train from the airport to the hotel.
The staff at the hotel are lovely and the room very clean and in a very nice condition. Because we saved so much money not staying in the city centre we were able to stay...

Advantages: At least I wasn't spending my own money Disadvantages: Plenty - just book a proper hotel somewhere more sensible
...bright spark proposed a cross-divisional meeting and, despite now belonging to a variety of different owners, 17 of us have wasted a couple of days to come and meet with a bunch of people with whom we now have almost nothing in common. The least they could have done was book a nice hotel.
Where is it anyway?
To be honest, I don't actually know. Someone said Zaandam is just north of Amsterdam. Someone else said it's about 15 minutes and 4.5 Euros from Amsterdam Airport on the train but if you made the mistake of getting a taxi from the airport you can kiss goodbye to 40 minutes and a massive 70 Euros. There must be hotels of better quality at cheaper prices and nearer to the airport. According to my Dutch friend Zaandam is 'famous' as the home of Dutch retailing because it's the town where Albert Heijn (as 'world famous...

Advantages: Comfortable airy rooms, good food, reasonably priced beer & cheap international telephone calls Disadvantages: Bad location, stuffy staff
...The Bastion Amstel DeluxeHotel was the final leg of an exhausting journey around the Netherlands visiting a range of Universities, and was to be our final stop for two nights before the onward journey with the KLM “I believe I am a racing driver” Pilots.
Bastion is a Dutch chain which currently has 28 hotels across the Netherlands and one in Germany.
Arrival at the hotel quickly established that we were in the middle of nowhere, save for a petrol station next door, situated on a business site with an apparent direct metro connection to Centraal Station close by (actually about 15 minutes walk).
CHECK-IN
Nightmare – 16 people all arriving in one go – reception refused to check for individual names but insisted that we would all crowd around and wait for our names to be called out – not a service you would expect from a 4* deluxehotel...
