The Bastion Amstel DeluxeHotel was the final leg of an exhausting journey around the Netherlands visiting a range of Universities, and was to be our final stop for two nights before the onward journey with the KLM ?I believe I am a racing driver? Pilots.
Bastion is a Dutch chain which currently has 28 hotels across the Netherlands and one in Germany.
Arrival at the hotel quickly established that we were in the middle of nowhere, save for a petrol station next door, situated on a business site with an apparent direct metro connection to Centraal Station close by (actually about 15 minutes walk).

Nightmare ? 16 people all arriving in one go ? reception refused to check for individual names but insisted that we would all crowd around and wait for our names to be called out ? not a service you would expect from a 4 ...

The BastionHotel, Oslo, is independently owned and operated under the Best Western marketing group, and is certainly one of their smarter hotels, being officially classified as a four star establishment. The hotel is conveniently located just a few minutes walk from the main city thoroughfare ?Karl Johansgate? and was refurbished, to much local acclaim from the press, during 2001.

My initial plan was to book the SAS Radisson Plaza and I had been watching their late availability rates, however this one grabbed me because of the attractiveness of its rate, and its interior, which was just that little bit different from the normal four star ...

Advantages: Away from the city center Disadvantages: Not good for night life
If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the centre of Rotterdam then stop reading now.
Approx cost per night EURO -95 to 135 for a standard room per night - breakfast is extra at approx EUR 16.
Rotterdam is located approx 1 hr by train away from Skipol Airport with a 10 minute taxi ride from Rotterdam station to the hotel.
Novotel have more than one hotel in Rotterdam, this on is situated in the midlle of a business park (Brainpark) which is next to a motorway.
The hotel itself is modern and the 1st impression we had upon arrival was of welcome and comfort.
The main receiption areain the hotel is just to the left of the entrance but you cannot miss it. It is located between the elevators to which are available to take you to the correct end of your floor rather than having to walk the full length ...
