I enjoy museums and am quite happy to take a tour self-guided or otherwise. However, I was a little disappointed with the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto. Being a self confessed shoe-a-holic, I was interested in learning a little more about the history of the everyday essential that is 'the shoe'.

The museum was quite expensive to enter and only contained three displays. The first display was about the history of the shoe and showed its progression through the ages. The museum was dark and I have to confess that the written displays were difficult to read because of the lighting. I did like the display of half a dozen shoes from we-loved celebrities including the Princess of Wales and Shaquille O'Neal. The other two displays were again very dark and, one based on the cultural changes of the Chinese and, I have to admit, I cannot even remember what the third exhibition was about!

The main disappointments in this museum were the abruptness of the staff; the poor lighting in the exhibition rooms; and the brevity of the displays in comparison to the entrance fee.
