Bath in General

Full marks if you got the reference in the title (Jane Austen, "Northanger Abbey")! This was the sentiment of my friend and me when we left Bath after our "girls' weekend " there; we're already considering going back to do our Christmas shopping. We had never been before and were hooked! HISTORY Imagine ... Read review

"Who can ever be tired of Bath?!"

Advantages: History, beautiful buildings, compact centre, individual shops, good places to eat!
Disadvantages: On the pricey side, a bit hard to get to, hilly (but has Shopmobility).

HISTORY

Imagine the ancient Celtic Britons, roaming the cold, misty countryside, when suddenly one of them sees a strange, ethereal white mist rising from a pool. They draw closer........ not only mist but bubbles are emanating from the water. ...
...by the Middle Ages Bath had a monastery and even its own mint, and had a thriving woollen cloth dyeing industry. Bath Abbey was rebuilt in its present form at the end of the 15th century
but was left to go to ruin following the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry 8th. Although the wool trade declined, the waters were still taken for medicinal reasons, popularised a bit more when Anne of Denmark, wife of James 1st, took the waters in an ... more

...or you could think that Bath is full of rich old people who look down their noses at everyone. Personally I’m inclined to agree with both, but I am willing to put all my grudges behind me and explain to you how I see Bath from the past, present and future. I was brought up in Bath by my grandparents but left to live in the country, and here I am 10 years later once again living in the city with the “golden” spring. I must say my ...
...go through all aspects of Bath from BC to the present day. **** Bath’s Development **** Years ago I studied Bath, which I suppose I took for granted at the time but now thinking back I think its amazing how just a few small events could be the making of such a, now huge and powerful city. The development of Bath first started in the 6th Century BC when according to legend, Prince Bladud was cured of leprosy by the hot spring waters. At this ...

Red Bow Free Zone

Advantages: Minimalist Reasonable price for Bath City Centre
Disadvantages: No Parking No Lifts

...we’ve stayed at overnight in Bath over the last year. I’d had enough of red bows tied round the spare toilet roll. Staying in guest houses like this make me think I needed to be a Mrs Bucket, or Bouquet, in the making and I most certainly am not and hopefully never will be. The recommendation in the Sunday Times for the newly opened Milsoms Hotel in Milsom Street right in the centre of Bath and directly above the Loch Fyne restaurant ...
...short street with smart, typical Bath boutique upmarket shops. Through the large entrance doors and the thick, luxurious dove grey fitted carpets leading us up a wide sweeping staircase to the first floor reception area with the original black wrought iron Regency banisters giving a good sense of even more high-quality good taste to come. Reception welcomed us politely and quickly took us to our standard double room on the fourth floor. There are ...

SOAP SUD CITY

Advantages: Roman baths, museums, colourful City, wonderful walks
Disadvantages: Can get very crowded

...Cities they would be Chester, Bath and London in that order. Luckily I have relatives who live near to both Chester and Bath - I suppose I'll just have to suggest someone moves down to the London area, then I'll have free bed and breakfast in all three Cities! In some ways of course Chester, York and Bath are quite similar. Each contains Roman relics and architecture, each has a river to walk along and museums and historical buildings abound. All ...
...shops. I first visited Bath some years ago as my sister lives in the Bristol area. I loved this City from the outset. It was June at that particular time and both the Town Centre and the outskirts were adorned with baskets of colourful summer bedding plants. Street performers could be seen on every street corner, giving the City a carnival like air and almost all of them were particularly talented and entertaining to watch. Naturally Bath is famous ...

The Lovely City of Bath

Advantages: Wonderful architecture. History.Culture.Good Eateries
Disadvantages: Can get busy. Pricey

...of fashion, the city of Bath came to be greatly enlarged. The end result : a veritable masterpiece in urban architecture, thanks to the genius of its main architects. There are a lot of sights to see in this fine city ! There are the attractive Georgian-style Circus,Royal Crescent and Lansdown Crescent to gaze at,the lovely 15 th century Abbey to admire,, the magnificent Pulteney Bridge, and the Roman Baths,Assembly Rooms and Pump Room are other great ...

The Bath Festival which takes place every year attracts a lot of visitors. On the outskirts of the city is the highly rated University of Bath which has attracted much acclaim both for its scholastic achievements and its fine architecture. As one would expect for a major tourist destination Bath's accommodation base is quite sophisticated. There are highly elegant, albeit, pricey de luxe town hotels, comfortable country -style ...

Bath - An Insiders Review!

Advantages: 1) Beautiful scenery and architecture. 2) Fantastic amenities
Disadvantages: 1)Lots of seagulls! 2)If you're a massive clubbing fan/night owl, there aren't that many clubs

...to take a trip to Bath and visit a local then you'll most likely have a different experience. The reason that I'm writing this review is that when I visit another city I want to know what the locals do and I want to make sure I've seen what that city really has to offer. Hopefully this will provide that service to someone visiting Bath. Now, lots of things to talk about, so I'll start with the basics. If you're on a day trip to Bath the first thing ...
...the one-way system fun that Bath enjoys! So, the alternative for you is to wake up in you're hotel and get ready to go out. I've not stayed in any hotels in Bath since I was a baby, when my family moved here - so I wont review these since I know very little about them. Breakfast in Bath is varied. Personally I would chose Cafe Rouge on Milsom Street, because their scrambled eggs and salmon on brioche is my favourite. They also offer hot chocolate ...

Hotel Armadams, Palma de Mallorca

Advantages: Well presented, friendly, welcoming, modern
Disadvantages: On a back street

with variety of channels, telephone, temperature control which was handy at all times of the day hot or cold. The bed was a large size, and the room also contained 2 comfortable chairs and a reasonably sized table. The bathroom had dual sinks and a very large mirror, a bidet and the toilet. The bath wasn't particularly deep, but it did have the power jets creating the spa bath effect..... which was pretty relaxing after a long day of walking. In general, the hotel was a very nice place to be. We were just a flight of stairs away from the facilities in the basement - Sauna, wave pool, spa bath, pool and the gym with weights and dumbells etc..... though we didn't venture into that. Breakfast was very well presented and palatable, with choices of hot food, cold meats toast, preserves and plenty of continental choices, including a seemingly ...

Review of Armadams Hotel Majorca, Palma de Majorca

Great family hotel with just 2 bad points.

Advantages: Great location, clean and family friendly
Disadvantages: The lift service and the basic rooms.

. The bar area was always clean and tidy but my only gripe would be that the was not enough bar staff on for the nights entertainment, sometimes the bar would be four deep. The entertainment was great for both adults and children alike. The childrens entertainment ran throughout the day till maybe 8 or 9pm then the bingo would start. Although my son was to young to join the kids club (3 yrs and over) he still had great fun at the kids disco 7.00 till 8.00. The pool area was always clean but the water was freezing cold. When the pool is open there was always a guard watching over the area in case of any mishaps. The rooms are basic to say the least. We had single beds, a shower/bath, toilet, b-day, sink and a portable TV. The storage place or room in general was not big enough at all. The rooms are cleaned on a daily basis which is good, towels ...

Review of Golden Donaire Park Hotel, Salou

Beauchief Hotel that isn't very 'beau'!!

Advantages: Quiet room
Disadvantages: Distance from city centre

-english speaking visitors who had misplaced their bags! Check in was very smooth, we were offered a newspaper in the morning and an alarm call if required, and we were directed to our room on the ground floor. The hotel is obviously old as the rooms are reached through a maze of small corridors, all well lit and well presented. Our room was surprisingly large and well laid out with enough room to manoeuvre without bumping into each other. The bathroom was well lit but that did unfortunately highlight the cracked tiles surrounding the bath, the dirty shower curtain and the need for redcoration in general. There was a small selection of budget toiletries but only towels for one person. We rang housekeeping and they provided more towels for us. After changing we decided to go for a meal in the bar area, prices ranging from about £5 ...
