Batu cave is about seven miles north of Kula Lumpur (Malaysia's capital city). I went with friends in a car and it took roughly 20 minutes. At times it various, depend on the traffic. You are able to take a taxi or catch a bus from Pudu Raya Bus Terminal. Remember, before getting in a taxi, you need to tell the driver your destination and ask for the charge. In some occasions, if you don't do this and they figure out are not local, take you on a detour and they will charge you more than normal.

Batu cave was discovered on the year 1892. Batu cave is base on two large caves and several smaller ones. There are 272 steps to the caves. The steps are small and slanted, so be careful when going up or down, especially when slippery. In the cave, there are temples and shrines so remember to take your camera.

The cave is a place for Hindu's. They celebrate the Thaipusam festival once a year. The festival is usually held in the tenth month of the Hindu calendar. On our calendar, that will be mostly the end of January. I am not sure of the details of Thaipusam festival. It is something to do with celebrating one of their gods to give them something good in return. You may have seen this on TV. Well I have, before I went to Malaysia. What happens is, on the day, many devoted Hindu's (I was told a figure of 800,000) and visitors go to the cave. Some will go through some sort of sacrifice/penance. They carry burdens using hooks pierce through their skin. And there are some who put skewers through their mouth, cheek, and tongue. They do this to get a favour from the Gods.

It can be very tiring, so take a bottle of water, though there are shops at the bottom and top of the cave.

Also remember to take a camera, it is a place for the Kodak.

There are many monkeys surrounding the cave. They run wild, so they will snatch your food. Make sure you don't have anything hanging out your pockets and bags. Once the monkey has taken your belonging, you will not get it back.

Hope this review helped.
