Advantages: Location, Price, the outside bar set right on the river, air con Disadvantages: rooms are small
...We stayed here for two weeks apart from a few days in the middle of our stay when we travelled up to kuala lumpar. It is a lovly little hotel in a great location. The breakfasts arnt great but they were ok for the price, if you want something nicer then there is a shopping mall just over the road with some food places in them but they are a bit more expensive than the hotel. It is situated right next to the newly developed clarke quay which is great for shopping and resturants. You are close to a mrt station but we just used taxis as they are so cheap and very reliable, also a taxi rank is very close to the hotel or they will call one if you want.
The home beach bar is outside and is the hotels only bar but it is set right on the singapore river and they provide you with comfy deck chairs and tables, they also serve food. When...

Advantages: On the Beach, Nice Rooms, Great Cocktails Disadvantages: Dirty Beach, Chaotic Restaurant
...So half way into our week in Singapore and the time had come to leave the city central Meridien, Orchard Road and move out to Sentosa Island and The Beach!
When I was looking for hotels in Singapore, I noticed the Shangri La claiming to be "The only beach front hotel in Singapore". That sounded promising and that's why we were booked there for four nights. Of course, I failed to ask myself why there are no other beach front hotels. I also failed to check the truth of this claim, or I might have found the other beachhotel on Sentosa!
GETTING THERE - AND SENTOSA ISLAND
Singapore of course is not a large place - it is a "city state" meaning the country borders don't extend much beyond the city. So, it doesn't take very long to get to the hotel, either from the airport or downtown - about half an hour.
The island of Sentosa lies just...

Advantages: Singapore Slings History of Raffles Disadvantages:
...A must visit when you go to Singapore is the Raffles Hotel. If you are loaded you may actually like to stay in one of the classic colonial rooms, however, if you aren't in the money like me then just visit the long bar. In the long bar you can sip delicious Singapore Slings ( at about £7 a glass) and eat monkey nuts to your hearts content. The long bar is the only place in Singapore where you are allowed to 'litter' so the tradition is to eat monkey nuts and throw the shells on the floor! Beware Singapore Slings are much more alcoholic than they taste!
Remember to look about the hotel before you get too drunk, there is a museum in the hotel and the history about Raffles is everywhere. The cricket club is another very British institution still evident in Singapore.
A good hotel to stay in close to the colonial area is the Westin...

Advantages: A great city full of things to see and do Disadvantages: Perhaps not the best Asian city to visit for the full far eastern experience
...also meet the Dolphins which l did the charge was $10 which is really nothing - l got into the water and petted and touched the Dolphin and had my photo taken too! This was such a highlight of my trip. There are numerous other sights to see in Sentosa too - Fort Siloso, Musical Fountain, or Images of Singapore - which l cannot really comment on as we did not visit. Sentosa whilst a bit gimmicky was a nice way to spend a day, especially when the weather is lovely, which it was on our visit until home time when the thunder did roar!
Raffles Hotel - one of the most famous landmarks in Singapore and home of the famous cocktail - Singapore Sling. Found at Bras Basah Road corner with Beach Road. This is a Mecca for most visitors to Singapore. We spent a lovely few hours wandering around this little bit of history and l really felt as though...

Advantages: Great location, good facilities and service; and comfortable rooms! Disadvantages: A bit of a walk to the closest MRT (City Hall)
...Centrally loacted, the hotel is very close to numerous recreational and commercial places. In fact, Pan Pacific Singapore is within walking distance of many of Singapore's historic landmarks, such as the Padang, stage to some of the most significant national events, the Cenotaph and the commemorative landing site of Sir Stamford Raffles - founder of modern Singapore. It is also close to Singapore's historic, cultural and entertainment areas, such as CHIJMES, the Boat Quay, Clarke Quay, Robertson Walk and the new Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay. The hotel is also connected to Millenia Walk and Suntec City shopping complexes.
You must try the Hai Tien Lo for exquisite Cantonese, Keyaki Japanese restaurant for authentic Japanese food. Its amazing!!

I have stayed in a few Singapore hotels, and generally the standard is extremely good, so I was surprised to be so disappointed with The Miramar. I chose it because I was on a stopover and got a cheap deal. As I have seen the sights of Sing before,... more
