Advantages: Reasonable price, reasonable quality! Disadvantages: Not perfect, and rubber eggs!
friends brought their plastic cups with them. This was because our room was much bigger than theirs (and because we had drinks with us). In fact our family friends initially weren't happy with their room as it smelt of cigarette smoke. The staff moved them into another room. My parents had a few niggles with their room, but the staff did sort them out quickly and efficiently.
The location
Having unpacked hubby and I went for a walk to suss out the surrounding area (Grouville). Being called the 'Beachcombers hotel' we had expected that the beach would be right out of the door. In fact it is a bit of a walk to get there?..hubby and I took an extra long route (unintentionally) and it took us about 2 miles to get there - funny when you consider how near everything in Jersey is to the sea!
If you take the quick route it ...
Advantages: An easy and fast read that didn't involve too much thinking Disadvantages: Rather predictable
THE BEACHCOMBER
JOSEPHINE COX
I have just finished reading 'The Beachcomber' by Josephine Cox; it is an easy reading book, nothing too heavy and a decent holiday read. The book is a mix of romance and murder mystery and, although somewhat predictive, isn't a bad read.
The Author
Josephine Cox was born into poverty in a cottonmill house in Blackburn, one of ten children. At the age of sixteen, she met and married her husband Ken, and had two sons. When the boys started school, she decided to go to college and eventually gained a place at Cambridge University.
Unable to take up this place as it would have meant living away from home, she went into teaching and set about renovating a derelict council house as the family home, coping with the problems of her own mother's unhappy home life while writing ...
Advantages: Beautiful rooms, exceptional staff, great location Disadvantages: Beach could be a little noisy
Location
The Beachcomber Hotel is located in the middle of Chaweng Beach in Ko Samui. This hotel has been given a three star rating which I feel it more than deserves. The hotel is set within tropical gardens, with the restaurant and swimming pool leading straight onto Chaweng Beach. The hotel has 58 rooms which are spread out across three stories. There are also more expensive rooms which come in Thai style villas which have their own terrace, these rooms are located right near the beach. The Beachcomber Hotel has a sister hotel called The Blue Lagoon which is on the other side of Chaweng Beach, there is a free shuttle bus which runs between the two hotels.
As Ko Samui is a fairly small island, we were pleased to find that out hotel was only a ten minute taxi ride away from the airport.
