Bekonscot model village. Nestled in the Buckinghamshire Chiltern hills is a place called Bekonskot. Bekonscot is only a few miles from the m40 and m25 motorways so fairly easy to find. This model village landscape at 76 years old is the oldest model village in the worlds. Bekonscot is in the town of BeaconsfieldI have lived about 40 minutes away from Beaconsfield for nearly 30 years and have visited the model village several times. We went recently with my grandson aged two so I was inspired to request a category for this attraction. The cost of getting into this village are.
Adult £5.80
Child (age 2 - 15 yrs) £3.50
OAP, Students, Unemployed £4.00
Family Tickets (2+2) £16.00

There are special rates for larger parties. I have visited with school and playgroup trips several times There is free parking for cars and coaches in a car park opposite the entrance. There are a few wheelchairs available free for use if you should need one.

Bekonscot is really a landscape with 6 little villages covering 1-½ acres. It really is like a collection of real villages all with roads, and a miniature railway connecting them. Although the village is set in the 1930’s I can see elements in it of the village community I grew up in, in the 1950’s.
There is a pathway for us giants to walk around and view the goings on of the people in the miniature village.

As you walk around the village you can see a zoo, a castle and a windmill. If you wished you could stop and watch the cricket match on the village green see if the bowler has fallen over it is a very slow moving cricket match. So move on to watch the activities at the coalmine a hodd of coal moves around this model.

You could watch a football match if you wish, I wonder if its any better than the football team on my village green I think the positions have changed since I was here last maybe the home team has scored 1 more goal.
Lets move on there is a racecourse over here opps that horse has fallen over.

Bekonscot is the main village here it has 2 train stations and if you stop awhile you will see trains coming into the station and going out again the train track goes all around the model landscape and a train will often pass you by. There are about 7 trains running at the same time causing lots of excitement from the children in your group. The scale is gauge 1 where 10mm =1 foot

Following the footpath round we come to a fishing village south pool. This has a harbour and an oil refinery.
Splashing also has a harbour, a market a castle a sailing club and beaches and a model of Sydney harbour bridge.

You could always visit Enid Blytons house at Hanton, this village also has an aerodrome ad a fun fair you can watch the little people on the roundabout having fun.
Nr this village there is a miniature copy of the maze at Hampton court
Some of the buildings in this model village are the original ones some are additions. They all look very real and have interesting details added to them. The church often has a wedding service. The shops have great names but I am sorry I cannot recall them correctly they are names such as mr Green the greengrocer, mr Ham the butcher.
All the models look just like a real building that has been shrunk. The scale is 1 inch to 1 foot. There are a lot of plants and miniature trees on this site all trimmed down to match the size of the village.

The mini village people are getting on with their lives playing sport, hanging the washing out or waiting at the train station. I feel like I am Gulliver in Lilliput. The model houses are great the detail on them amazing. Some of these models are the originals others ones which have been added.

I am thirsty and a bit peckish now. Did you bring a drink and some sandwiches?
There is a small adventure playground that has a picnic area attached to the model village.
. While we eat our sandwiches and chat the children can let of steam and play on the adventure train. Do you want a cup of tea, I did not bring a flask I know there is a kiosk selling drinks and a few snacks both hot and cold, call the children over we will treat them to an ice cream from the kiosk. Luckily it is a fine day and we can eat outside. There are a few shelters to shelter against any rain. There is a cabin schools can use to put things in and shelter from rain.

If your child has a birthday there is a log cabin that caters for birthday parties. I think this would be fun to do with some children.

For the children there is a model train opened in 2001 a trip on this costs only 50p it is a very small train and only goes a short distance but it’s enough to entertain a small child. Adrian loved it.
We spent nearly 2 hours at this model village you could walk round it in an hour but we played in the play area and had a drink. We took my parents a few years ago they loved it as it reminded them of their youth. It would be a good place to visit with children as part of a history topic, how we used to live. I would recommend going here I expect I will do again one day.
Who built this village? Bekonscot began as a hobby for Roland Callingham, a .who bought a meadow next to his home in 1920 he and his gardener built some model houses in 1929 Bekonscot was opened to the public no admission charged people invited to put money in a charity collection box
In 1932, a charity was set up to administer the village and to donate the money to charities In 1978 a company was set up to preserve Bekonscot and its fundraising. Since then all money has gone to charities raising over a million pounds

. Thanks for visiting with me there is a website WWW.Bekonscot.com if you wish to find out more.

Great review. My kids were taken there last week and loved it. I was going to do a review, but having read this, you have covered it all, apart from the puns on some of the buildings. Adam

Oooooh that bought back some memories we used to go there often when the girls were younger as my Husbands family lived up the road from it, haven't been for about 10 years now though, as my now ex Husband lives right near it....doesn't sound like it has changed much over the years though......
