I stayed at the hotel last week and was not overly impressed at all.

It took a little finding as the travel instructions were not very clear but once we found Abbeydale Road South...it was a straight run to the hotel. The car parking entrance for hotel guests is not clearly marked and you need to turn into Abbey Lane to reach it. We initially used the car park which is available for patrons of the restaurant and pub.
To reach the reception area from this car park you have to walk along a glassed in corridor, which I imagine in the summer is quite warm, but on a cold evening was chilly.
The receptionist was very helpful and pleasant, even though she had just had a trying time with non-english speaking visitors who had misplaced their bags! Check in was very smooth, we were offered a newspaper in the morning and an alarm call if required, and we were directed to our room on the ground floor.
The hotel is obviously old as the rooms are reached through a maze of small corridors, all well lit and well presented. Our room was surprisingly large and well laid out with enough room to manoeuvre without bumping into each other.
The bathroom was well lit but that did unfortunately highlight the cracked tiles surrounding the bath, the dirty shower curtain and the need for redcoration in general. There was a small selection of budget toiletries but only towels for one person. We rang housekeeping and they provided more towels for us.
After changing we decided to go for a meal in the bar area, prices ranging from about £5 for a wrap, only to find that they stopped serving food there at 7 pm (we went in at 7.10 pm) and that food could either be obtained from the main restaurant or room service. The bar has a large screen tv which is a little too much for the small area and is not conducive to having a quite drink. We went into the restaurant only to find that it was empty and too quiet!!! (No happy medium avaiable)
There are a variety of restaurants within Sheffield but very few in this area of the outskirts...we drove back down towards town and finally settled for a typical pub meal at a nearby pub.
On returning to the hotel we found the entrance to the residents car park and managed to secure a space...there doesn't seem to be many spaces available but it was dark!
The double bed in the room was extremely comfortable and extra pillows were available in the spacious double wardrobe. Our nights sleep was extremely peaceful and it was very pleasant to wake up to the sound of a babbling brook and birdsong.
A selection of tea and coffee sachets are available but the choice of biscuits was bland...perhaps something a little more exciting could be provided.
The water in the shower was hot, not very powerful but adequate - it would have been helpful if the extractor fan had been working as the build up of steam has no where to go.
The hotel advertises that hair dryers are available in the rooms but the one in our room was not working properly...it overheated very quickly - I would suggest taking your own. The lighting in the room, although adequate in the evening, is not conducive to putting on your make up in the morning and with the bathroom mirror still steamed up.....
Check out was painless and we decided not to stay for breakfast!
Advantages: Lovely facilities, grounds and staff Disadvantages: Slightly pricey if on a budget
I know this hotel from as it is quite near to where I live. When my now husband and I were looking for venues for our wedding reception, it was one of the first hotels we went to see. As soon as we saw it, we knew it was the place for us.
It's a medium-sized, 3 star hotel in a popular part of the city. The room where we held our reception, the Hamlet Suite, can seat up to 80 people for a wedding, and is also used as a conference room. There's a ... ...that was especially nice as we got married in August last year on a hot day. The food was wonderful - we had a hot buffet rather than a formal sit down meal - but everyone enjoyed it. The staff were very professional, but extremely friendly. We had had welcome drinks and photos taken in the garden outside the Hamlet Suite, which was also the courtyard area for Michele's Bar, which is part of the hotel. There were lovely grounds as well.
There's ...
