I have been to Ayia Napa in Cyprus several times in recent years, in the spring, summer and autumn, and have always found it a great place to holiday. In recent years it has had a reputation for the clubbing scene and the eighteen to thirty age group, but their time is July and August and the rest of the year gives way to the older party animals and families, and Bedrock is a must for everyone to visit.

The theme of this Karaoke bar is as you have probably guessed the cartoon characters form the ‘Flintstones’ with all the bar staff dressed as Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble, Wilma or Betty. The bar itself is set out in true Bedrock caveman style with the stage being a cracked open giant dinosaur egg. Every time I have been in this bar it has resembled Ayia Napa town square on a July night at midnight, with people standing shoulder to shoulder, hardly able to move, and having a great time, the atmosphere electric. Just about all of the bar staff are excellent singers in their own right, but of course Karaoke is all about taking part and the real stars are those who get up and give a performance. With the bar being so well patronised most singers on a usual night, only get one chance to shine, so mostly they stick with songs they are comfortable enough with to give a good performance. Just like on television’s pop idol there is always the ones that think they are the next Whitney Houston or Elvis but are as flat as a pancake, but human nature being what it is an out of tune singer that gives an enthusiastic, energetic performance that makes everyone laugh often gets more applause than the really talented ones.

I mentioned earlier about the town in July and August being full of ‘freestylers’ I would like to point out though that Ayia Napa has some very nice family hotels, many of them near Nissi beach, one of the best beaches in Cyprus, and are well patronised by families at all times of the year. As a follow on to this comment, Bedrock has always been full to the brim of all age groups and with all of those groups taking part. The compare likes to get the under sixteen’s to sing early in the evening and also the slow numbers out of the way as well, leaving later on for the upbeat songs to keep people in the party mood.

In conclusion Bedrock is a well run bar, with great hosts, excellent equipment and a large catalogue of songs to choose from, the only slight downside is the alcohol is slightly more expensive than most places, but hey your on holiday, and where else can you get such fun and raw entertainment for the price of a drink. One last thing Yabadabadoo……..

I have been here. One of the cheesiest places I have ever seen. I just wanted to hide in a corner out of embarassment. I guess it is not everyone's cup of tea? Desiree x
