The Beekman Towers Hotel

Beekman Towers Hotel is located on No. 3 Mitchell Place in New York sity. This is about 5 minutes walk from the United Nations building and Trump World Tower. It's a big hotel with 173 rooms spread over 26 floors and it has a restaurant on the top floor. On the ground floor you have the front desk which is manned by 2 members of staff at all times.
The ground looks very neat and well taken care off. The lobby is built in an Art Deco style which has stood the test of time and is very stylish. Also on the ground floor there is seating and a secure area where you can leave your luggage. There is a porter and someone who can bring up your luggage. You have a choice of three elevators that go up and bring you to one of the 26 floors.

Location

Beekman Tower Hotel is situated on the outskirts of Manhattan near Roosevelt Island. It is situated a 10 minutes walk from a Metro station which is quite far but not too bad.
You're also about 10 minutes walk away from Grand Centra stationl. If you walk along the street of the hotel you will walk past the landmark Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and Rockefeller Center. The last one is certainly a must and it's a lot quieter than the Empire State building and you have almost the same view. The Rockefeller Center is about 15 minutes walk from the hotel. The easiest way is to go by taxi in New York and there are plenty of them located within the vacinity of the hotel.
Room

I stayed at the hotel in February 2009 in an standard room. The room can accommodate 2 people and has the possibility of putting up an extra bed.
The room is clean and tidy but could definately use a facelift as it looks quite old-fashioned.
When you enter the room you have a small kitchen at your right. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking like a microwave, refrigerator and even a coffee machine. It also has cutlery, plates and glasses. We even had a small dishwasher in the kitchen.

When you get out of the kitchen you walk into the living/bedroom which has a sofa, coffee tablet, television, wardrobe and a double bed. The bed is comfortable with 2 large pillows and 2 more pillows in the closet. You can also order an extra blanket if you need it. The room has two large windows that partially open. The room also has a good heating system that is easy to adjust the temperature.

The bathroom is very tidy and clean with plenty of towels and shampoo which are replaced every day. The bathrooms have a bath / shower, toilet and wash basin with hair dryer. The bath is unfortunately a bit on the small side. I am 6 foot and could just fit in it.
The shower is a good powerful one and makes up for the small bath.

Breakfast/restaurant

I didn’t have breakfast at the hotel but it is available if you want it. You can also get the breakfast delivered to your room. Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the 26th floor.
Monday to Friday from 7.00 to 11.00
Saturday and Sunday from 8.00 to 12.00

The hotel offers a restaurant on the top floor with a pretty amazing view of New York. I had here dinner once and enjoyed the view which stretched out over the skyline.
The food was unfortunately not as good as the view.
I had the steak and this was dry and even bit burned. The food was also expensive for what we got as we paid almost $400 for 4 people for a main course and dessert which is quite a lot looking at what we actually got.

Other facilities

On the first floor there is a room with four computers that have access to the Internet however you have to pay for it and the price is pretty steep. You can pay by cash or credit card and the minimum amount is $5 which gives you 12 minutes on the internet. Wireless internet is available in your hotel room for $9.95 per 24 hours.
Conclusion

I found this a great hotel for a few days. We had looked for a hotel that offers rooms with a kitchen which is becoming rarer to find. The rooms are somewhat old fashioned but well equipped and the bed is comfortable for getting a good nights sleep.
The bathroom was good and most importabtly it was well cleaned everyday.
The staff were all friendly and extremely helpful.
The hotel has a good location so you can quickly enough get to the center but unfortunately it’s just a bit too far from a metro station for example if you want to go to Ground Zero which is not within walking distance.
For a reasonably priced hotel that is located within the heart of Manhatten then you could do worse.
