The King of Castles

Advantages: One of the most impressive historical buildings I have ever seen
Disadvantages: The fact that its not more widely known

Carrickfergus Castle I grew up in the shadows of this impressive monument and it amazes me that it is not more widely known outside of the UK. The castle is the best preserved monument in the whole of Ireland and is stunning to look at from all angles. Location The castle is located in the town of Carrickfergus which is situated on the shores of Belfast Lough about 10 miles from Belfast. The castle can easily be reached from Belfast by car (pretty ...
...and thus the town of Carrickfergus was born. (Carric (might be spelt wrong) in Irish means rock) thus Carrickfergus is the Rock of Fergus. My opinion As a school boy living in the town I was mesmerised by the interesting and often bloody history that our town had gone through and in a way I was very lucky that the stories of my ancestors is so well documented. The castle which was garrisoned for almost 800 years is now a national trust property and ...

Family fun for all in Northern Ireland

Advantages: A fun day out in Northern Ireland for kids of all ages
Disadvantages: Ques for slides

I was recently looking for something to do on a day out with my 1 year old daughter and found the LeisurePlex on-line. I thought it looked really good so of we went to Lisburn. The centre is ased at Lisburn Leisure Park just outside the city centre, the LeisurePlex has the largest leisure pool of its kind in Northern Ireland, with some of the fastest and longest rides in Ireland. There are spa pools, a lazy river, pirates ship, baby area, and from ...
...It cost £5 for an adult to get in and it was free for my baby. The only drawback was the ques for some slides but I suppose this is to be expected. Theres a great open cafe area which looks onto the pool. There is also integrated changing. But it has lockable changing rooms and family rooms. The centre also has a 25-metre competition pool, diving pool, GymTech 2000 Health and Fitness Suite, Studio 2000 Dance Studio, multi purpose main hall and conferencing ...

A sweet refuge in the heart of a hectic city.

Advantages: A place of refuge in a busy city!
Disadvantages: Would be better if it had a roof!

Botanic Gardens has a Tropical Ravine (built in 1887) and a Victorian Palm house (built in 1839)as well as beautiful rose gardens, colourful flowerbeds, variety of trees, all of which combine to provide an exotic environment. Only a few minutes(5-10)walk from the city centre it really is a place of beauty an refuge in the midst of a busy city. A place to lose yourself in a busy day! And perhaps if - although not likely - you could find yourself a ...
...likley to rainbathe! Botanic Gardens is located beside The Queen's University of Belfast and Ulster Museum on the Stranmillis Road in Belfast both of which are well worth a visit. The Palm House is one of the earliest examples of a curvilinear and cast iron glasshouse. The foundation stone of the Belfast Palm House was laid on 22 June 1839 by the Marquis of Donegall at a ceremony at which no intoxicating drink was provided. By the following year ...

the strand cinema

Advantages: admission is very cheap
Disadvantages: the cinema screen is just a painted wall

this cinema isnt the best for looks but is good if you have seen the movie before and just need a recap. it has good acessabilty but no parking apart from a narrow, double lined, steep road.the price is good as it costs £2 for children and £3.50 for adults. the security isnt too bad but i think you could bring a utv if you ...

The Belfast Zoo

Advantages: Lots for people to see and do
Disadvantages: Quite hilly and wear something warm if not sunny as it is open to the elements

The Belfast Zoo is set in the beautiful Cave hill area, from the top of the zoo there is such a view over the lough and Belfast. When you arrive at the zoo there is quite a steep approach and inside the zoo is quite hilly too which is not great for people with walking difficulties. There is an electric train which travels all the way round the zoo so you dont have to miss out. Prices our reasonable and disabled people go free. The first things you encounter ...
...the left hand side there kids can see a number of animals, donkeys, cows, goats, pigs and piglets snakes, bats, also in this area there are lemurs which run free it is wonderful for kids and adults alike. Leave the farm and on your right there is a lake with beautiful flamingos and an island with spider monkeys, move a little further on and there is a well equipped kids playground and there are benches dotted throughout where you can sit and rest. The further ...
