I went to Malta as a child and remember the beautiful landscapes and views and wonderfull fishingrestaurants along the peacefull coast.
This is why we decided on a summer holiday this year to Malta.
I booked a late booking through the internet, although this wasnt cheap for a week (compared to other places) my memories told me it would be well worth it.
~~~~~~ Malta~~~~~~~
The island of Malta is still very beautifull with lots to explore for such a small island. The fact that it is so small is a bonus as all areas of the island are accessable by bus for a day trip.
But the small fishing communities have been invaded by alot of tourists, therefore you will now find fast food restaurants and high prices to boot.
The small amount of beaches are now full of rows and rows of sunbeds. Because there are so few beaches it was hard to get anywhere near the sea and the beach snack huts are constantly full so be prepared to wait!
When we first arrived at the hotel we were disapointed straight away but tried to keep an open mind after the long journey. It is a large hotel situated on a very main road. There is a terrace out the front of the hotel but you will be suffering from the fumes of passing traffic, including large lorries. The dust and noise is also a problem when trying to enjoy an after dinner drink.
The hotel has one pool which is squeezed into the side of the hotel. It is surrounded by walls therefore does not receive any sun to most parts all day. The amount of space and sunbeds compared to the amount of room in the hotel in inadequate. We never managed to get a bed after breakfast in the whole week.
There is also a roof terrace, this is a massive bonus as you can get the sun all day and into the evening. There is a small spa tub here, however it was never cleaned and got increasingly dirty and scummy as the week went on.
The restaurant provides a self service buffet. All meals were adequate but after a couple of days became very dull and tasteless. To the point where we went out for dinner on the last 2 nights even though we had paid for Half board.
The cleanliness of the hotel was basic, even though the rooms were visited by the cleaners every day there were still rubbish and dirty glasses left in our room for several days.
~~~~~~~~~~Conclusion~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although we felt disapointed with the hotel and service we received it proved to make the holiday as it pushed us to explore more of the island. Instead of slobbing out by a beautiful swimming pool we went to explore the wonderfull cities, towns and culture.
We do not have children but i think a family would get extemely bored at this hotel.
