My better half of over 40 years was feeling the need to visit Holy Island (lindesfarne), so i had been looking. Then saw an old working mate passing thru Nottingham station, where I work, Where have you been Lindesfarne he says, he recommends staying at Berwick, on the main line, and has a Bus service linked to the Tide Timetable that calls at the Station.
So looked for B & B's in Berwick, fell upon www.berwickbedandbreakfast.co.uk this site gives about 20 places. Most seemed booked but got two nights at Ben More House.
When we arrived, there were many NO VANCANCY signs up. It transpired it was Heritage Weekend with an OPEN DOORS policy, which meant FREE ENTRY to all places, what a bonus.
We arrived at Berwick Station bang on time (Well done CRoss Country Trains). although I had a Map printed, there is a good one outside the station. Also checked bus times for Lindesfarne , service 477, runs Weds/Sat. Showed Dep at 12:15 on Sat with return leaving Holy Island at 17:05.
Started to walk from station to Ben More House (only took about 15 mins), intreagued that we seemed to be also following signs for BEER & FOOD FESTIVAL this way. Turned out that the Beer tent was only about 100 yards from Ben Mores front door.
Ben More is a 3 story Grade 2 listed Georgian Townhouse.
It has a spacious House Room on the first floor. The other two rooms are in the out building in the Garden. A double called the Stable Room, this is the one we had on the ground floor with another twin The Loft Room above.
The stable room has a very confortable double bed. A single wardrobe adequte for short stays. Also plenty of Draw space in a Dressing table and bed side draws. There are good bedside lights. A flat screen TV on the wall with multi channels , includes Sky News/Sports.
It has ensuite. Excellent Shower with press button for start/stop. so once you have adjusted for tempreture you just press button next time. Toilet. Vanity sink is a bit small and has cold tap with small unit for hot water so not a lot of space, but OK.
Towels supplied were fluffy and excellent. vanity items also supplied Shower Gel/ Shampoo Sathchets/ Soad and bath hats.
There is a tea making tray. Coffee/Tea (Plain/Earl Gray) Milk Satchets but owner also supplies fresh milk and there is a tiny fridge to keep it in.
In one draw there were two wine classes and cork screw, as out side there is a table and chairs in the garden to take advantage of.
Lynne the owner has only been there two years but seems to be making good progress with the garden which was just concrete when she arrived.
Breakfast is served in the House on the Front Ground Floor room which benifits from the morning sunshine. It has three tables and is a very bright room. Breakfast is very good. There is a full range of cerial including a very good local suppiled Muslie. A full Enlish is on offer again with pride in local sourced ingrediants. Local Free Range Eggs, local Sausage and bacon. Toast Brown/White. Tea/Coffee (plenty of).
Lynn is a lovely lady, and issues you with Keys for Outer Front Door, Inner door and room Keys. She seems to have good knowledge of local walks and information. She offers lifts to the station on leaving.
Lynn does have a friendly dog, but it knows the breakfast room is out of bounds, and we found it no bother.
The couple above us in the loft room did not make a lot of noise, but is you are a late riser or early sleeper, the House Room or the Loft may the better option.
The Cost was £58 per night for the double with breakfast.

Berwick is not a large place but the location was excellent. Seemed everthing was within 5-10 mins walk.

As we live so close we usually go to Berwick just for the day but have talked recently about doing some cycling up in the area so good to have a recommendation.
