I was lucky enough to eat here this week and this is what we ate.
STARTERS ~~~~~~~~~
Bajan Fishcakes with Barbados Sauce- Two absolutely huge fishcakes with a coconut mild curry sauce. - These fish cakes contain purely fish, chunks of salmon and hake and the like. No potato here and certainly no minced fish.
Crepe Alfredo with Cheese Sauce- A large crepe oozing with fresh spinach and chicken, topped with a cheese sauce, a must for spinach lovers.
MAIN COURSES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pan Fried Fillet of Pork with Wild Mushroom and Mustard- a very generous serving of medallions of pan fried fillet of pork with coarse mustard sauce with plenty of cream topped with a selection of wild field mushrooms.
Entrecotte of Scottish Beef with Brandy and Pepper Sauce- Medium rare rib of beef (spot on with the medium rare!) this must have been at least a 12oz piece of beef. The Pepper sauce was classic French style with brandy and fresh cream, with a swirl of fresh cream on the side.
We opted for the house red, it was a Spanish Siglo for £16 per full bottle. The quality of the house wine should always reflect the quality of the establishment and it did as expected.
DESSERTS ~~~~~~~~~
We chose a French Tart covered with fruits of the forest and a Pina Colada. We were so full that we took them home with us for the following day.
The French Tart which was supposed to be glazed and contain Creme Pattissier, it did not in fact but on the whole it was a lovely dessert.
It was a pastry base but contained what I think was Creme Chantilly instead. It was topped with fresh whipped cream with no glaze and topped with fruits of the forest.
The Pina Colada was a pyramid shaped dessert with a light sponge base. It was filled with what I believe again to be Creme Chantilly and coated in coconut, then topped with a shaving of delicious white chocolate on the top point.
No doubt if we had eaten them there we would have had icecream or fresh cream to add.
Besides they were a dream for breakfast!
After dinner drinks they have a good classic selection. No 'After Shocks' here! Classic Amaretto, Sambucca, bottled beers, some draught beers too and reasonably priced for the city centre and establishment.
STAFF SERVICE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is what you call service with the waiters/waitresses pouring your drinks/wine, moving your chairs for you to sit, extremely attentive constantly.
They place your napkins on your laps and are very polite but extremely down to earth at the same time.
What is most important is that they take your plates when you have finished immediately, not before and not too late.
CONCLUSION ~~~~~~~~~~~
Thumbs up for this restaurant, I will be going back again, I have been there before and have always come away happy.
If you are wondering, Ciao have spelled this place wrong, it is in fact 'Benedictos!'
Location Windsor Place Cetral Cardiff
After being greeted by the jolly owner we stood at the bar while we chose our meal. The bar was empty but even so there was nowhere to sit.
We chose Crepes with spinich and chicken, baked egg with smoked salmon and prawns and melon balls with strawberries.
2nd disapointment no strawberries at 8.30 !
I love lobster and was delighted to see 2 dishes with lobster as the main ingredient. No lobster! Notwithstanding ... ...for the venison, tournedos and veal, with a bottle of Margaux.
4th disapointment the wine was poured into glasses that would be more at home in my kitchen cupboard. At over £33.00 a bottle plus 10% gratuity "entirely at the customers disgression" a little more care would have been welcome.
All was going well until the main course arrived.."Who is having the duck?" erm? we didnt order duck. The plates were taken about 5 feet away where the staff ...

Advantages: Lovely food, lovely décor, and just lovely. Disadvantages: Nice price, shame about the cost! ! !
If you want fine international cuisine then this is the place. My family and I only go there when we have a birthday to celebrate and that’s only when we have saved up enough money Joe Bloggs. Yes it’s not a cheap place to eat. They have two floors – ground one (where I’ve always dined) having more of an intimate personality to it then the first floor. It’s never been at al busy (at least when I’ve been there) and the waiters and waitresses have ... ...this retro feel to the décor – it is all woody with a few mirrors dotted around and the lighting level is subtly on the cosy, cuddling up to your partner side of things (if you get my drift). The piece de resistance is of course – the food. All so well presented, all different to the normal stuff you get in ‘normal’ restaurants and if you want a touch more veg – just ask. King Prawns are KING Prawns – not tidily little things that squeeze between ...
