In Search Of The October Sun!

Advantages: Lively Place, Cheap, Plenty To Do
Disadvantages: Very High Rise

Benidorm has often been referred to, as Spain's equivalent to the British Holiday Resort of Blackpool and speaking as someone who has had the pleasure of visiting both of these locations I can certainly see where the parallels have been drawn.

I recently visited Benidorm between 17th-24th October 2006 and despite my very first impressions of the place I had a fantastic time.

I make no apologies for the length of this ...
...GETTING THERE

Benidorm lies on the Eastern Coast of mainland Spain approximately 45 kilometres to the North of Alicante, which is where the nearest Airport to Benidorm is to be found.

Most visitors from the UK, like myself, will arrive by Aeroplane, but there are a large number of visitors that decide to stay longer and travel from the UK by Car.

The Coach Excursion from the Airport will usually take ... more

If you have never been to Benidorm before

Advantages: lovely scenery, places to visit, warm temp, lots to do
Disadvantages: slippery downhill marble paths, READ MY BUYER BEWARE OP

...need any more information about Benidorm once you’ve read this, then feel free to leave a message in my guest book. I have been to Benidorm (situated in the province of Alicante in Costa Blanca) twice now with my boyfriend Paul. The first time I went was on 11th September 2001, so as you have perhaps guessed – many of the planes were delayed. This was my first time out of the UK too, so the longer we had to wait, the more nerve-racking it got. I ...
...luckily when we got to Benidorm and not before. Our plane was supposed to leave at 1.30pm but was delayed until just after 5.30pm. We were delayed for what seemed like days, actually it was just 4 hours extra, but when you’re waiting impatiently to go on holiday, it can seem like days. Paul and I managed to pass the time by looking round the many shops on offer and Paul was scoffing KFC’s from the vouchers we’d been given as compensation for the ...

Sticky Vicky's Paradise in the Sun.

Advantages: A good all round holiday destination. Lovely places nearby and excellent climate.
Disadvantages: Has a bad reputation with some people. I'm NOT there now and it isn't fair!

I went to Benidorm again last spring for my holidays. It was our second visit; we enjoyed it so much last time that we were really looking forward to going there again. Our first trip was for our honey moon in September 1999 ~ this time was in May, so we’ve seen the place during two different seasons and built up quite a good picture of the place. Both times saw us in the same hotel (The Rio Park ~ a good, if a little large hotel suitable for families ...
...the Mediterranean on the other. Benidorm enjoys a microclimate that helps keep the temperature warm throughout the winter months, making it an ideal “all year round” holiday destination. Benidorm is part of the Costa Blanca ("White Coast") a lovely coastal region of Spain. It has two main sandy beaches (Levante and Poniente) and clean blue seas, with beautiful, quiet countryside dotted with vineyards, citrus groves and some serene Spanish villages ...

...consultant suggested Costa Blanca and Benidorm and I must admit that I hadn't the faintest idea where Benidorm was except that it was in Spain somewhere and I was not sure of anything that there was to do there, but I did have five days off so decided what the hell and booked the trip then and there. Well after leaving the travel agents I wnet home and proceeded to find Benidorm on the map and see excatly where it was and was glad to see that the ...

The staff at appartment where I was staying were very friendly and helpful and they spoke very good english which was great as I spoke no spanish. The appartment was confortable and had everything I needed for a relaxing break in the sun, it was a self contained room even though I was on half board basis so there was a general dining room down stairs. After checking in and ...

The crux of the decision was based on the fact that this years holiday would be the last a few of our buddies would be partaking in the “Lads only holiday” laws, as they had gone and got themselves “Girlfriends” and Benidorm was the scene of our very first lads Holiday together 6 years ago. “A trip down Memory lane” really isn’t the right phrase to use here, more of a “I’d like to see what I ...

It would appear that Ciao had this hotel on their database before it was completely rebuilt and enlarged. It is now a four star hotel with 206 guest rooms. We booked our flights with the low cost airline - Globespan - and allowed them to book the hotel and transfers from airport to resort and return. They made the bookings through Hotelbeds.com The cost of a seven night all inclusive stay at this hotel was £323 for two, staying in a standard twin/double room - I believe this cost was achieved as we only booked our holiday one week before departure (The flights ...

The Gran Bali

Advantages: one of the best hotels for luxery
Disadvantages: the entertainment

This is without a doubt, one of Benidorms, if not spains finest hotels. It has great pools, the food is lovely, it's situated not far from the old town of Benidorm but in a quiet area. The staff were very helpful and polite. Personally, I would recommend it just for the adults, as the entertainment and activities wasn't upto much, especially if you could only speak english. The particular week that i went, which was in june of this year (2005), mostly foriegn guests were staying, so if I was to be looking to make friends out there, I would have needed to learn spanish a lot better. The night time entertainment was a little dissapointing, as it was mostly the same every night. But the views the hotel had of its surrounding ares were spectacular. The rooms were more than nice, and nothing was too expensive. They have some nice british pubs ...

JM See ya later

Advantages: see text
Disadvantages: see text

Ok, so we've heard a lot about all the tour operators on Watchdog and other programmes of this genre, but we don't always expect them to be as bad as is said. JMC were not terrible, but I would not choose to go with them again. They seemed disorganised and unreliable. Here's my story of what happened in Benidorm, Spain. We arrived at Alicante airport at about 9pm and were kindly welcomed and made comfortable on the coach taking us to Benidorm and the hotels. The bus journey was fine - air conditioning and the microphone actually worked. Next day was our welcome meeting. They arrived late and seemed nervous to be talking to only about thirty of us. We booked ourselves onto some of the trips, which seemed cheap enough, but all of the extras soon mount up. First up was the bar crawl with free shots in each bar. Ok, so you get ...
